Things will not get better, here is why: Virtual-networking software is literally killing demand for high-end hardware. Chinese are not kidding, they compete like nobody else The government and NSA do not help with all spying rumors, kills us overseas Return on investment is non existent - bought a ton of stuff, nothing materialized HW prices continue to slide, it's a secular and irreversible trend Layoffs are only a temporary fix, in the long run, it's counter-effective and it hurts you Cloud and Security moves will help but only partial, the pie is not big enough to offset losses in HW Have I missed anything?

The question is how much will it take to sink completely. Any guesses on the year ?

Cisco did spy. I was in the meeting at Cisco where Cisco agreed to put NSA code in the Routers. That was in 1992! All governments spy and if the vendor doesn't cooperated business is withheld.

Our glass is still half-full if we can wake up and execute better. May require more brain power than the execs are willing to expend on their fishing trips.

Believe at last count we have 50-60% of all internet traffic.

Hw less , sw will less too , SDN will not happen , otherwise sw only support cosmetic features

The virtualization system is need sophisticated hardware , sw only tools to control hw, hw ask sw to control their design , without hw , sw only be a textbook , so still need hw
