Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Did you guys got any reason of why?

My boss told me it was not your performance at all (we have many juniors in team) but he didn't say what it was. Can they do that? Should I talk to HR?

Working at Cisco is like being one of those chickens that has to constantly peck (work) on the machine to get it to spit out some corn. At some unpredictable moment, the machine quits spitting out corn for reasons known only to it, and you're left with a sore pecker. One day your pecker will feel good enough to move on to the next machine.

HR is not here to help, they here to get you out and protect Cisvo. They all snakes. Company save money if the get rid of Fran, virtualization HR function in cloud and have robots with recording.

They don't give a reason why. They just tell you you're gone. It does seem that the people they layoff are on the more 'mature' side as opposed to laying off junior people.

Here's the reason supplied by our group's SVP, "... these actions increase our ability to deliver financial results aligned with market expectations." Pretty much sums it up.

"Increase shareholder value" 3 words that tell you your company's executive leadership has no vision or clue.

At the end of the day its budgets and how many people can fit into that cost. If a G8 can do that job, then its cost savings for them.

I got LR'ed. May be due to Cisco standards my salary was too high - 138k base, 1500 RSU at G10 engg.

I knew several G11's making much lowers than me in other teams

I hope the original poster realizes that HR's job is to protect the company's interests, not the worker's. This is not unique to Cisco.

Remember, HR is not there for YOU the employee. It is there to protect the COMPANY.

So, they won't do or say anything to help you.

I hear rumors of class action law suit b/c of age....seems like a lot of senior people were affected.

The only thing they can or will tell you is your position has been eliminated. Note I didn't say that they would see you were being laid off. Layoffs are not allowed to be about performance directly. However, performance can be a factor if there are two people in the same position.

So if you are a GL 11 Software Engineer, and the only GL 11. They can say we examined our business needs and decided we did not need a GL 11 that we only needed GL 10s. If there were 2 GL 11s then they have to have justification on why they eliminated one over the other. They don't gave to share that with you, but if it ever went to court they would have to produce that.
