Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Times are changing

One of our major problems is that Oracle and other legacy IT companies have relied on selling on high-end, high-margin software and hardware tied to big up-front purchases. Now that we have a huge Cloud revolution, which spread payments out over time and offered less expensive products (OK, we can debate this), this is all impacting legacy players as native Cloud companies like Salesforce and NetSuite start to eat our lunch…

But, even though Cloud companies have moved more to an enterprise sales models that require up-front payouts for a year or more of use — clients still perceive them as more cost-effective (often not true) and more modern than us and other legacy IT folks.

It sounds like its going to a business model like cell phone companies. You give the phone in trade for the data package behind it. Essentially the hardware yields very little in profits but you get the contracts. and you see how well this worked for them. They are now having such a hard time with revenue and profitability. Not to mention markets are saturated with options. That's what's going to hurt Oracle the most there are now options. Microsoft and Amazon are going to kick some major a~~ in the next two years. Try and get retrained an hired on and enjoy a few years of that work. Not much places left to go if you think about all the tech layoffs, unless you want to go to India or China.
