Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Life outside is going to be so much better.

I am 40+ and my manager has been critical of me for months yet I was not laid off. I got sick of all the political crap, constant changes in my role completely different than I was hired for, and lack of clear direction so I resigned. No one should be expected to put up with management who treats their people so poorly and who is negative in their staff meetings about their own management changes.

I would have rather been laid off as a "you are not a good fit" than to be forced to resign because I could not stand how I was treated one more day. Life outside where my personal and family situation is not constantly questioned and discussed all of the time is going to be so much happier....that is none of Cisco's business as long as my work is being done and nothing unethical is going on. No manager should be allowed to constantly berate their employees like I have been putting up with for months.

Making a person feel threatened all of the time breaks down your health and no amount of $$ is worth it! I will be ok and it is a huge relief to know my time under this mess is almost over. My future is going to be so much better.....as many who have moved on have learned.

Welcome to the "People Deal". How does Fran still have a job? Really.....?

I wonder how many people deal with this at Cisco but afraid to speak up. It is definitely NOT a company with open doors and the freedom to talk about issues with management. It's culture is an old, hierarchical dinosaur instead of the cool, inclusive place they try to market. Maybe if they would get rid of all the managers who have had people resign they would figure out who the problem managers are....people do not resign a job but poor management.

Wow, you largely described my existence at Cisco in the past year since a reorg... berating, mistreatment, disorganization, chaos, marginalization. Good for you for making the leap to be free of the place.

My self respect is worth more than sticking around for a severance package in the future.

Totally agree. Your health is more important. I am sure you will find something better. I have so many ex Cisco friends that left or got LR and they regret not leaving sooner.

I got the LR "this season" after 12 years. I'm happy, because job hunt is already a job itself. It's hard to look with our crazy hours at Cisco.

Good luck to you and I know you will be just fine.

HR: "If you resign you will not get severance package. So think twice."

So glad I'm not the only one! I can't resign until I find something new, but I'm hoping that'll happen soon. Every day is a struggle.

You expressed exactly my feelings.

I can't stay one more day in Cisco.

Very bad managers, , unclear direction, nervous environment , all the people areound me are upset.

The strong engineers leave - I am going to start in a better place (I hope)

Bye Bye Cisco - I will not miss you.
