Germany is great. 1 year paid bonding leave not 8 weeks. Minimum 6 weeks holiday but most people take 3 months due to the overtime they accumulate. It's illegal to be contacted by your employer outside working hours which are 40 per week. You can't be fired for low performance. Special permission needs to be granted by works council for weekend work. Life here is good.

Agree with @2ugb .....In Germany and other European countries a university degree, especially in tech, law, etc., has certain professional status and weight..you can't get screwed around as easily as in the US. Look at your reviews history at Intel and elsewhere: one year you are a top performer, next year a bum, just because management has a secret agenda. Lies and staged reviews in the US companies is pretty much a norm; a company should have the right to eliminate positions but it should be done professionally. Perhaps all this stems from the absence of real engineering professional associations and arbitrariness of the way the US industry operates....
Folks, did you never get any basic school education of some quality? From what I read here I must conclude that they only show Fox News in school. I have read so much nonsense about Germany on this site, that I do not wonder at all about declining US. Even from an IT guy I would expect at least a minimum of knowledge beyond the rectangular computer screen.

You can be and are fired for low-performance in Germany. That means you are given IR n are shown a performance improvement plan. What you cannot do is someday out of the blue call S3 stocks to have a hidden performance required meaning n use it as an excuse of firing people.
Lies n obfuscation are not tolerated in Germany. The unfortunate folks in the US should start taking Intel to court.
Intel had to resort to these massive layoffs because it failed miserably in the 2nd/Mobile wave. One person had the responsibilty for the mobile business and delivery, since 'the leader' failed repeatedly in her target to enable a Lte SoC after 3 years. In a typical German firm, the leader would have enough competency, professionalism & dignity/respect to quit first. The typical German leader does not use race/gender card to stay & fire others for her incomptency/failures.
Stop watching fox news if you do not want to remain stupid
Yeah, but in 5 years, Angela Merkel will have you praying 5 times a day, you won't be enjoying german beer, and your wife and daughter will need to book their FGM surgery.
Post ID: @IYKtkhB-1cnb. I will be interested to see if things have changed, but it used to be impossible to fire anyone in Germany unless they had done something blatantly wrong or illegal. The manager is supposed to make sure the employee performs and is the one held accountable for bad performance. They do not have the bell-curve, bottom-of-the-heap, have-to-cut-X-percent-every-year mentality--and that goes against the whole Focal concept. If you do want to get rid of an employee, you have to go through the labor council and various hearings and usually the issue is resolved with a heft settlement to the affected employee, even if the company is going under (which Intel as a whole is not). That's why they said from the get-go that ACT could take a lot longer to happen in GER, possibly through 2017. Heck, even in Ireland, everyone that got let go got a full 2-years pay due to government law. I assume it will be something similar--or even more generous--for German employees. At this point, only the lawyers and the German government know.
Nothing against Germany, but you can't be fired for low performance? Tell me that again after next week. Also, don't you think such a law would be a disincentive to create jobs there? Whistling through the graveyard, Europe is
A bunch of cliches here.
"Life is good in Germany" if you are a refugee from Syria.
Exceptionnal bwhahahaha... But True . people can spend 10 jours in a day in meetings. Impressive... they "work" a lot
No, the dumb b--ch problems in germany are in a whole different magnitude than oregon.
Americans jealous of Germany????
Bwahahahahahahahha. Oh my. Thanks for a good laugh!
Germany and Europe in general s---.
We like work in the US. It's part of what makes us exceptional.
Difference is, German engineers work full 8 hours a day, no social, internet surfing, stock trading, restroom chatting, az kissing, dck sooking during work time. One short coffee break and that's it.
India is better still. For a few hundred you can hire a maid and driver. After more than 2 decades in the US I will take my ERP home and live like a king.
OP you are right. Life in Europe is better. Do not be jealous. At some point civilization will make some progress in the us as well
Is the nincompoop that acquired Infineon still with Intel?
