If Apple is willing to ditch Qulacomm for modems, they won't hesitate to ditch Intel for processors.
It's all about multiple sourcing and pricing power.
Look for the hyper scale datacenter giants like Google to do the same by diversifying to AMD and ARM solutions.
I see margin contraction as a near certainty as Intel talent flees and the foundries catch and surpass Intel in manufacturing excellence.
I've been putting off a new system for a while, waiting for Zen or a low priced ARM server board. Good to see this movememt! I wonder how many others are doing the same? The long awaited refresh cycle goes to AMD and GloFo. Ouch!
Google AMD Apple Zen to read the rumors
AMD could be back, I recalled the days when a little company with inferior silicon technology out innovated intel. Their chips were smaller, faster performing and more amazing they were made on a generation behind technology. They were first to get out of MegHz before the Prescott disaster, they were the first to dual core before the Smithfiled joke. Sadly they were too small to survive making silicon.
Intel is the new AMD with TSMC and Samsung with far bigger volumes and development urgency.
Apple will soon likely use it's own ARM cores, benchmarks already show that their performance / watt smokes Intels latest. The TMG technologist like to talk about density and being ahead, but it never seems to reflect in a product.
Tough times for Intel going forward
