Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Cisco - Who will survive?

Never thought it would happen to me! But reality is that .. I got laid off !

For the last 6 years worked for the company with honesty, but would not say

worked hard!.. there was no need since I was good in making things happen

on time.

Yes.. execution and stakeholder management are by strengths.

But the weakness was to keep a good relation with the 'B--chacious' manager.. who was really into micromanaging things... which I really hate. Giving respect to such folks is not in DNA.

But just want to pass a message that 'It doesn't matter how honest and able you are at work,

which matters how well you can keep your manager happy (truely brown nosing)

I don't think anyone will be able to survive except those who brown nose/kiss-up and play politics. The survivors have to push the wagon with all the "brown nose/kiss-up and people politicians" sitting on the wagon. At the rate we are managing good quality people out of the company, nobody will be able to survive. This round is very different from all previous rounds since 2000.

Just find your manager's weakness and cash in. My manager loves to travel so I do a little Google search on cheap deals for vacations a few times a week and he eats it up as easy as 1-2-3. Over 10 years here I do the minimal and it works. I don't slave myself I'm to smart for that.

I've done roughly 25 IT projects at almost 20 different companies.

Cisco ranks pretty darn high in sheer stupidity and politics.

I was consulted on a project at corporate for a few weeks and frankly, I've only seen perhaps three projects that were kookier. Let's just say that they were replacing the engine on their wife's volvo to fix the starter in his Toyota. Really glad to get away from that one early.
