Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

Students at our campus are actually getting jobs

Why? Because we actually give a sh-- about them and care about our students. Stop bitching and do something good for someone, even if its just one person a day. happy july 1st

"Let's be honest, if state run schools had to abide by the Gainful Employment standards, they'd be screwed too" I you were really honest, you would admit state schools actually screen potential students based on skills and academic ability, turn away the crap. EDMC is all crap students who qualify for loans which make up the majority of its student body.

The problem with graduates taking these menial jobs is that they feel they have to have something, anything to get by in the meantime. The problem is also that some of them lack confidence in their abilities. The greater problem here is the career services "help" process. These processes are written by higher ups who haven't worked in the trenches of Career Services. The CYA mentality of CS processes to avoid more lawsuits, leaves "career advisors" little time to actually assist graduates in finding jobs. Those advisors who do care about helping people find industry related work got out when they realized they were hired to do data entry 80% of the day to "CYA" for Ai. I'm speaking from personal experience. EDMC/Ai is all about business, as most companies are. Accept this before its too late. I urge you all to find a job elsewhere where you are allowed to make a difference in someone's life or, start your own company and make a difference in lives and create jobs as well.

Students getting removed from job assistance for getting jobs at Kinkos is f---ing criminal and you all know it. These kids did not get 70K+ in the hole to work at a print center. The job market being what it is, there should be more help given to anyone who pays that much, and sorry, but Kinkos does not qualify as in the industry.

The most talented students are always going to survive and find good paying jobs. I revel when they do and help them when I can. Unfortunately, they represent a tiny fraction of the overall student population. The problem is that even as outsourcing and computer driven automation take away thousands of jobs, EDMC continues to promise great jobs to all students who walk in the door. This faulty promise then justifies the enormous cost and this is why EDMC is in such trouble.

Outsourcing and automation are problems facing all colleges and universities and this is why reform is so necessary. State funded universities skirt the problem by simply not promising students anything.

Is there a solution or is this too much a systemic economic problem that cannot be solved at the college level?

we do, the problem is that for instance culinary graduates find jobs from $ 10 to $ 14 per hour, then they have to pay back loans and bogus expenses like "digital resource fees" after already being gauged with a $450 per credit hour sub par education.

Do me a favor go inform yourself about the comments that the Food and Beverage professionals make about the level of skill our grads go to work with, thanks to our admit everyone policies, teachers on segments that were actually formed at Ai campuses and can only teach off those dumb Nenes books. These "cheappo" EDMC standards are showing, as the amount of real chefs teaching in our campuses is shrinking every quarter. Still printing diplomas...
