20% Workforce Layoff

Heard from an SVP that this will be announced in the next two weeks. Probably so you're gone before GSX. Seems to be a regular annual occurrence now, but 20% is a large cut.

Cisco gets around re-hiring for a layoff by bring in a worker with the same responsibilities but at a lower job title.. Mostly these replacements are from India.

It's going to be a mix to blue and red so the actual % of blue which is what the company reports will be low.

Isn't it illegal to lay someone off and then rehire for the same position at a lower rate? I'm sure there are ways around it but just curious.

Every June since 2008, the layoff fever shows its ugly head like some seasonal virus. Managers will do everything possible to ensure that their seats are safe, but its the actual feet on the street performers who get the chop. Cisco HR is a Joke. They keep hiring and firing. Many positions that were affected by the cuts are the very same positions that they will recruit for at a much lower cost. Used to be a great company to work back in the day. After 2008, employees fear is not about achieving targets, but about ensuring they have safe passage into the next year.

This was posted 15 days ago. If a 20% layoff happens (about 16,000 employees) it will most certainly be announced prior to GSX which is Aug 21. (With enough time to cancel or shift flights/hotels)

If I were a betting woman, I would say also after the last day of the fiscal year

2014 didnt include many that were removed, when they were not on original LO list. This is a big one. Trust me. May'16 earnings were good,Chuck wants it better. Big LO will do it.

The percent doesn't matter... So it sound like cisco will have a LO soon.. that much is guaranteed right?

20% seems way too high and unrealistic. 2014 layoffs were only 5% of workforce and they were a big deal. May 2016 earnings were pretty rosy.
