Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Cobra info for those "waiting" for it

I decided to go check the MyBen web site. You sign up there (I got an alert when I logged on to sign up for Cobra) so if you were waiting on some "paperwork" like I was, doesn't look like there is any coming. Go there quickly, there is an expiration.

Called 'go my ben' helpline earlier today. Was on hold for 50 min but I got some answers that may be worthwhile to share,

  • Intel will pay AON Hewitt directly for the 6-months COBRA. We'll receive instructions for payment beyond the 6-months in Nov. From Dec onward we need to pay for ourselves.

  • when signing-up for COBRA the coverage/option will have to be exactly the same as what we used to have at Intel.

  • changes are allowed in 2017 during annual enrollment in Oct.

  • we have to pay for the Health for Life Centers for the month of Dec ($39/$78) assuming we have that option before leaving Intel. (I don't recall we have the option of choosing Health for Life Centers when enrolled for 2016 back in Oct 2015, hopefully I can drop it for 2017.)

  • the $9000 payment should come before end of Aug. Not sure there is any tax withheld though.

I asked the hotline two months ago and they said we can change coverage during open enrollment in November

Got the COBRA paperwork in the mail, but it would have been easier if Intel just told everyone to just go online or call the toll free number. Anyways, on the website, you go thru and select what coverage you want…medical, dental, vision, Health for Life Center, Employee assistance Program, and FSA election.

Does anyone know if one can drop a benefit later? For instance, after 4 months, I don’t want the Health for Life benefit, can it be dropped? Also, is there an open enrollment at the end of the year, in which one can enroll in different benefits? Also, along those same lines, can a new FSA election be made for 2017 during open enrollment?

-wur here. I received my COBRA package today too. The mailman must have been late today. Everything is going as they said it would (for me). I think all I'm waiting for now is the retirement award and gift to hit my recognition card.

I took ERP and just sign up Corba online today. There is another alert for IRMA sign up. I called goben and they said sign up before end of month but do not select any coverage. I can add the medical coverage when Corba run out. Signing up now is just to open an account.

To @IeMh9P7-xal, I haven't enrolled yet. The deadline showed when I logon is earlier August. Does Intel pay for the first 6 months directly ? What does your received paperwork say ? Also who is the COBRA administrator ? Thanks.

Yeah, they said approximately 4 weeks afterward you'd get something in the mail. Looks like they meant 4 wks after the final day we could push the button (6/2), and not 4 wks from 6/24 like I was thinking it would be if the previous poster got his today. Hopefully I'll get mine too. Either no mail today or they haven't come yet.
