Intel Corporation Needs to Prove That Altera Buy Won’t Go Sour

http://www.fool.com/investing/2016/07/04/intel-corporation-needs-to-prove-that-altera-buy-w.aspx

SemiAccurate reported back in 2013 that Altera had originally aimed to tape out, or complete the design of the Stratix 10, in the fourth quarter of 2014. This schedule continued to slip, with Intel CEO Brian Krzanich saying during the company's most recent stockholder meeting that Stratix 10 is "scheduled to start sampling and shipping in limited volume toward the end of the year." This means that Altera, now Intel, way missed its original development schedule for this product.

Another massive fail in the making. Expect more billions to write off.

Intel's non-x86 execution is ATROCIOUS.

How's that 14nm technology? LOL!

Investors are going to lose patience soon. The balance sheet took a massive hit to finance this.

I am an Applications Solutions Engineer for ICF working directly with Altera. Yes, Altera designs are quite a mess and ICF is not able to help. If Altera cannot succeed with ICF, I don't see any other Intel Foundry customers succeeding. Time for me to look for another job.

We Altera folks are very happy. BK cannot cut us for 2-3 years, so it's all good until we find other companies to work for before sh*t hits the fan.

When you can't get any customers you buy companies or divisions and force them to intel silicon. The same thing is happening to the Infinion guys and they hate the move to intel silicon!

Altera threatened to abandon Intel's 14nm for TSMC and then Intel bought Altera.

LMAO!

That's one way to win a customer! Hahaha!

Buying your customer is never a strategy for success. LOL!

So pathetic.

Has there been any significant foundry customer shipments on any node. The 1st repl from -vci doesn't seem to understand the epic fail the foundry business has been. There are thousands of people in the foundry group and to this date they have been a total failure in getting any business and enabling anybody to get anything of significance working on any of the process nodes. Now what does this say about the people, the foundry strategy, or the process, people can make their own conclusion, but the lack of anything and the slip of Altera well the summary is simple, this is an epic BK'd program!

Because Stratix-10 is so late, Altera's main competitor Xilinx has been enjoying a bonanza and taking large amounts of market share. Why is Stratix-10 late? Altera can't get it working on Intel's 14nm! They should have stuck with TSMC. Now, YEARS later, they will get something working, while TSMC rolls onto a superior node with Xilinx taking even more share.

It's just typical of Intel acquisitions. Such massive failure.

Here's a clue. Stratix-10 (which is the product referenced in the article) is being developed on Intel/s 14nm process. It's not going well. SHOCKER!

Not sure what 14nm has to do with anything, we've had 14nm shipping for years. Also, taking a fool.com article as anything but clickbait...
