Kaby Lake Delayed

Intel can't even get x86 execution right now...

http://www.fool.com/investing/2016/07/05/heres-why-microsoft-corporations-next-surface-book.aspx

The reported delay in releasing the new Surface Book is a prime example of this "lack of product/customer focus in execution."

What a sh!tshow.

The time it takes a design team to design and launch a product at TSMC Intel would be lucky to get an A step out.. and how many steppings does it take to launch at intel, LOL

ARM partners do new architecture on new processes all the time. They have to as mobile moves much faster than the glacial pace of PCs.

Intel just has slow sh!tty methodologies. Another reason ICF can't get any customers.

Sh*t Lake is ready for 7nm tape out.

No KBL isn't Prescott you idiot, Ice lake is the Prescott of 10nm. You never do a new architecture on a new process as that is a BKing for sure and that is what we have. Broke 0 yielding 10nm process with a brand new un-debugged design will mean extra quarters of finger pointing between TMG and Division as to why nothing works and performance is busted, LOL

KBL = Prescott?

That's quite a BK-ing.

How can you include all of the ice lake features if you're stuck at 14nm?

New architecture and new robust process takes me back to Prescott days, company is totally BK'd

Cannon Lake will be cancelled.

We go directly to Ice Lake.

By that time, ARM competition will provide a way better solution.

The PC HW refresh cycle is now 2 years per generation.

PEG projects are delayed because there exist organizations such as PCSO within PEG which think they deliver value to PEG projects by just putting together a schedule in Microsoft Project without any understanding or experience of running/managing a project.

Project Analysts are just OVERPAID admins adding no value to Intel or any projects. The value they speak of is all marketing speak. Most of them sit around doing nothing while other PMs run the projects..

We lost some key folks on Kabylake due to ISP/VSP with no handoff/backfill. Not sure how project will be completed on schedule and without major issues.

@1ghu - Backup plan is Kabylake refresh coming out in 2017 (second half, presumably) again on 14nm.

What's the backup plan if (when?) 10nm crashes and burns?

@1swa - Gold post! That is why I got out of the insane asylum. How long can PEG and the company survive with this kind of crazy/ineffective execution? Only thing that can keep Intel afloat for a few years is its deep pockets, but better prepare, the losses are coming. Sooner rather than later. Should get some clue in the Q2 earnings release the next week or so.

How many project managers does a project manager need to support another project manager who is project manager to manage a basic PEG project ?

Nowhere else have I seen so many project managers ALL TRYING TO LEAD THE PROJECT IN THEIR OWN WAY, such m0rons. You can only have ONE LEADER at any one time.

Any project manager that can not manage their schedule, analysis, provide updates on what is happening with their project should be gotten rid of from Intel. This is the basics of being a Project Manager.

Unlike at Intel, where a Project Analyst waste of person will put together project schedule, another project manager will put the same schedule in a power point presentation, another project manager that will only manage sharepoint, another project manager to provide analysis... lol..

.... these are all functions of ONE PM, not so many people.

ELIMINATE all the project analysts dumbest lot in PEG and total waste, hire some effective PM to run a complete program on their own in developing the products and watch Intel products get released on time.

We can't get x86 right because nearly the entire company is angry with the senior executives - there is so much passive aggressive behavior that the entire company suffers, not just production, R&D etc... all segments and BUs.

@1rhk couldn't agree with you more. Can't remember how many PDT I watched over the many generations and same old wash and repeat. Then I'd attend the Postmortem and we hash over the same old same old same old from generation to generation.

What is the definition of insanity? When you do the same thing over and over. Intel seems very good at that at the moment all around

@ibqp - Totally agree, schedule is king, but how you aproach the schedule requirements while keeping focus on quality is what Intel has been lacking for at least the past 3 or 4 years. What management can't seem to understand is that if you cut corners to meet the tapeout dates and compromise on quality, this means post-si delay and potentially more steppings, preventing prod quality on schedule. In my opinion, it is better to spend a little more time in pre-si val in order to get quality steppings, easing the post-si schedule and therefore getting to production on time. However, I have yet to see a single Intel project in recent memory to take this approach.

Schedule is king, I have yet to hear a senior leader ever listen to the deep reasons why schedules are what they are or work thru tradeoffs for pullin. All you ever get is yelling and demand of hitting the schedule. So, you hit it and garbage comes out and you do stepping after stepping and come in later than doing it right once

I work on the Kaby Lake tape out. We are cutting a lot of corners versus other designs - orders from the top. This chip will have issues.

I've worked on four ASICs for Intel now in 3.5yrs and none of them will see the light of day.

What a waste. Oh well. As long as they keep shoveling the cash into my account I could care less.

Sadly the Apples, MS, and Lenova/HP/Dell of the world know Intel has no competition. Gone are the days where a desperate David would execute and invent new things to keep Goliath honest. Now the PC world is stuck with a insular company run by arrogants who know nothing but their spoiled and monopolist ways and nobody at the company had to compete with except their own internal arrogance... No company ever survives or innovates in that kind of environment... To bad as the PC and intel once had potential... Now just the Titan taking water getting BK'd

BK was too busy changing signs on restrooms to care about product execution. How does the board keep him around with so many execution failures? I swear, we've set a record for cancelled/late projects in just the last 12 months.

This is what has been happening since BK became CEO. He doesn't read the people very well.

BK does not know how to read. BK should ask his elementary teachers to return to him every penny they spent on his education.

They created out of him ignorant moron.
