According to Bloomberg News Verizon is in informal talks to sell all of their remaining outside landline operations. Verizon will maintain their Central Offices to use as heavy hauling of transmission and also to push out IPTV and all wireless products. Current contract will be enforce till its termination. After that the inside union will bargain separately as will the outside.

NYC is the capital of the world. No one else cares about the rest of the country. Verizon would spin off every other state and keep NYC if it could. At one time 70% of the then nynex Corp revenue came from south of 59th street in Manhattan. I bet south of 59th still brings in big bucks. No matter how they hide it by expensing everything to landlines

I can tell you for a fact that contractors for Frontier were inventorying all the CO's in the northeast foot print back in 2010-2012. They would come in at night, after 6 PM. It's a done deal. The union is already prepared. Nothing will stop lowell from separating wireless from landline and completing directly with fios through new high speed wireless.
@1mill The regulations to sell the plant in those states were just about non existent. The regulations to sell anything of public concern in New York are ridiculous. The same goes for Boston, DC and PA. Those old time states have a death grip on what they consider there's. Verizon will have a hard time getting out from under, and away from that plant.
Also, unlike those new states, The old Time original States have imposed a sales tax on the sale of the plant. So, you do the math if the sales tax is 10% to 20% that's huge money. It was an easy sale in Florida, Texas and California. Not New England that's for sure.
By the time everyone figures out that the 5G on a pole idea doesn't work all that well, Lowell and his cronies will be out the door with their big cash prizes. Then the next CEO will have to actually invest in fiber to the home again and we'll be back to square one.

I would bet that Arizona, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, California, Florida and Texas said the same thing.. you could ask them.. they're all at Frontier now.

5G will provide fast internet, but it will not provide a full suite of FIOS channels in HD.

While I can find little evidence it wouldn't surprise me. I had a good source that said both frontier and century link were interested in the NE. However frontier didn't have the cash and century link was fearful of the pending union contract

Wow what an amazing world it will be in the future! everyone will be using go90 by that point and the major metro office buildings will all use wireless 5g. No more server rooms. Google, Netflix, and T-Mobil will all be driven out of business. My dog will be hooked up to the internet.
gzx you don't understand where wireless is going. In couple of years VZwireless will be able to hang a 5g antenna on a telephone pole or light pole and provide gigabit service to 50 homes. No fiber to to the home to install or maintain. No service calls. Your home 5g router stopped working, don't worry we will overnight you a replacement. Waay cheaper than a truck roll. Fiber needed for backhaul you say? It's all dark fiber. It's cheap and everyone is providing it. Traditional lit fiber service is sun setting.
Why sell the fiber? Right now it's the best service that Verizon offers, it dominates it's competitors in the markets where it's available. The wireless has reached a saturation point, and is in a world of competitors, that offer the exact same service, for less. The Fiber outclasses all it's competition, unlike the Wireless service today. Verizon leadership would be nuts to sell.
