Thread regarding Weatherford International Ltd. layoffs

The reason furlough has been lifted for hourly employees but not for salaried exempt

Hourly employees work on clock so when time is up, they're gone. However, salaried employees usually work until their job is done so more often than not they end up working longer than 40 hours a week (specially during mass layoffs). When on furlough, they have to take 2 days in month off without pay but they'll end up staying longer other days to finish their job.

This is how you screw your workers.

What a joke ! Most of the salary personal at our place spend most of the day BS and going to meetings. Furlough on fridays for a three day weekend. 5 week vacations plus sick days. Wow! The REAL workers get worked to date to get orders out while the favorite people mess around around l day. WAKE UP PEOPLE!

the furlough was basically a temporary 10 to 20% wage reduction. I still put the hours in, often longer days so I could comply with not working on the furlough day. Things still needed to get done to keep the business going. It was what it was. I consider myself fortunate that my wage wasn't reduced some a lot of the hourly workforce. I feel bad for the hourly guys, but wasn't going to fall on my sword to feel better.

The only big costs that weatherford has any ability to reduce is labour. They've pretty much reduced everywhere they can. Now they are trying to reduce labour costs and hopefully not lose people when things turn around. It's not personal, just business.

You got that right message from 1mEbwp-sam. The salary people in my office haven't worked a 40 hour week in years. They are also the ones that take advantage if everything else. Gas, meals expense report including the manager. We all know this nothing new

Hah, you make me laugh. Get a grab in reality. Yes, I do take a day off every 2 weeks but I have to stay longer other days to make up for it. And it's not just me, I see other salaried people in the office in the same boat. We have time sensitive commitments to customers and that's just the way it is.

They know it and they allow this to happen. I smell a lawsuit because I think Weatherford upper management intended for this situation.

There are very strict rules for furlough. You can be fired if you work during furlough. The company can get into big problems if they force/ask you to work during furlough. Don't be like chump/s---er.

I am salaried, call me a chump/s---er or whatever you want but I have to finish my work before I can go home so I end up working more than 40 hours a week even though I am supposed to be on furlough. Our group has been hit hard with layoffs but we still have to operate, finish projects and fulfill our commitments to customers. This is how I am getting screwed, I am still working pretty much same or even more hours but I get paid less.

The real reason is that accounting is too stupid to figure out how to keep track of overtime and furlough.

This.

Not at my facility. Salaried employees come in late and leave early. Sit at their desk on Facebook, read books or are doing snap chat. And take a 1 1/2 hour lunch and even longer when the plant manager is gone.

Stop staying longer. Your time is worth more than $0. Why would you? If they let you go they keep your earned vacation, assume you have had no raise and they are not contributing to your 401. Go home after 8 hours.
