Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Negotiate your exit package before they even accept a job at Cisco

Regarding the package…

Someone in another thread commented negatively about people who were wondering what the package is.

But I believe that Cisco has created a culture where wanting to understand the package is a foregone conclusion because of the frequent layoffs.

The way Cisco conducts these things is reprehensible, because there's really no rhyme or reason to it, and the people deal is just an excuse for arbitrary "measurements" so that employees can be weeded out more easily.

In fact, I would recommend to anyone even considering working at Cisco to negotiate their exit package before they even accept a job there if at all possible.

I see it as every job/employer is only temporary nowadays. I come from a time where one would strive to stay beyond two years. It's not the same anymore and I see the original poster trying to say that with any job, it's never a guaranteed thing, so I think they are suggesting that a new hire should get the exit package In writing before joining provides a little more security. Executives do it, so why can't us commoners?

As for the comment that there are other places to work ... Haha, very true. But I think all the large tech companies behave like this, so I think the pickin's are slim when looking for a decent tech gig with a large tech co. I guess you can go to a VC backed place , but there are issues there, too.

And if someone can name any tech cos that aren't practicing quarterly layoffs, etc., please post them here. I'd love to see credit given where it's due. Thanks!

Geez, there are other places to work. Why would anyone want to work at Cisco in the first place?

Unless you live outside the USA, in Michigan or are a SVP or above......ain't gonna happen. Right-to-work agreement for the most part. No reason needed to axe you at any time.
