This time next year Intel intends to exit Europe with regards to iCDG sites. Notice of site closures will be announced summer next year with sites closing by the end of 2017. The rationale is that the multi-rat 2G/3G/4G product pipeline will be secured. 7480 released 2017, 7560 2018 and 7660 2019. To support this roadmap the management foresees support can be given by San Diego for fw and hw teams outside Europe. 2020 will be where 5G will intersect as a mass market product and management have been strict to limit 5G exposure in Europe. Again this is extreme short sightedness of management in the skills and capabilities of European teams.

Intel cpus ... Power inefficient ... arm designed in EUROPE is the best
7-8 years since cellular modem is being worked on by European teams. All products have been behind the market and the products that came out can't even be integrated with Intel cpus. That's a shame. Intel better off licencing than developing the technology.
EU won't let them hire cheap H1Bs. Why would intel operate there?

Nonsense. Munich is crucial to icdg's success. European engineers I have interacted with are top notch. We have nothing but respect for them in the US ICDG teams. Please don't spread vicious rumors.
Will all the sites in Europe close?I am working in Munich, is there any more specific info about Germany?
The German workers should ask their works council to refute this directly and deny there are currently any plans to close German sites. We all understand the future can change but some commitment from management would bebe nice. Germans are paid significantly less than US workers because they expect higher levels of job security. If this is undermined why work for less at Intel?

I guess Europe is more costly Geo and tough labor laws. So a faster and total exit by Intel and others. I hope I am wrong.
