ARM is the choice for all real IoT as the power efficiency kicks x86. That was and continues to be the choice for all phones ( read little computers with little batteries ).
IoT is even more power sensitive expecting the chip with full integrated radio and sensors to work on a battery for weeks to years. x86 has no place and will get it's asshanded worse than the Intel tablet and phone offerings were.
Now they get a big sugar daddy who will double down and double their staffing. Think Intel doing Itanium, Larabee and Tejas, but instead of spectacular failures likely ARM will now have three efforts they can fund from the sugar daddy.
1) Traditional architecture improvements for the smartphone only a billion of those sold
2) New push into a new category of ARMy for IoT. Intel will have nothing competitive in this space. Their process nor x86 and their integration of radio/etc. pales compared to what a well funded ARM with TSMC silicon can bring.
3) Renewed push into server and high end with another more well funded ARMy to assault the Xeon line. I'm sure Google, Azure, and AWS and FB would love nothing than a real viable ARMy far more power/computational efficient than overpriced Xeon with FPGA. Now ARMy will push hard and have Xlinx FBGA pushing the high end
