Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Need Advice

Since the big re-org last year, this place has not been the same anymore. I have a job offer to work in another company, should I jump ship?

It's a lot of money to leave on the table. However the stress of the job dumping every time they lay someone off can physically hurt your cardio and that is something to think of when deciding. My spouse just walked by and said ask to put your name in the hat. I guess he is pretty happy to have been laid off last year. Check the benefits at the proposed company. The benefits where we ended up with have a horrific deductible, but value older American employees and you only have to cover for people absent, not do the job of every Tom, D--k and Harry that got laid off before you or takes a trip to India.

I feel the same way. This place is not the same anymore. A lot of very passionate people do not care anymore, and just do the bare minimum. Why do a good job, when someone thousands of miles away in NJ can make a decision and lay us off. At the end of the day, we are all just numbers on a spreadsheet.

the restructure in January 2015 split the company into three organizations. one of those was for the TX CA FL wireline sale, which is now completed and the organization dissolved. the two remaining organizations basically break down, simple terms, into customer service overhead and network operations. the customer service overhead will be dismantled or sold to Accenture. the network operations side will remain however parts of the operations may be subcontracted. refer to Bloomberg article 7/1/14 where Ericsson stated they would be taking over network ops of VZW and ATT. only VZW did a knee jerk denial. the remaining two orgs would have moved forward with their plans had it not been for the wireline union strike. the remaining reorg should occur by year end since the stock has been downgraded. VZ will want to show stockholders moving into 2017 that the overhead will go down and profits will go up. I left when I saw the rearranging of the deck chairs on the Titanic three months before the Oct 2015 RIF. I am making $23K more per year in same field. leave why you still have a chance to manage your exodus.

Yes, I was RIF'd last year after 20 years of dedicated service. I'd been through so many re-orgs, 1 relocation and was laid off once before and rehired. It took me 6 months to find another job, but I'm happy now. I wish I'd followed my gut and jumped ship a long time ago.
