Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Lots of IRMP/SERMA/Retiree health exchange brochures and paperwork coming. Any reason to pick those instead of just taking the COBRA first?

I was on the Oregon Providence Connected Care plan (HDHP) before ERP. It was the best plan ever, and I've already hit the deductible for this year. Any rationale why I should / would switch over to IRMP or a Retiree Health Exchange option at this point instead of taking the full 18 months of COBRA? Especially the awesome drug coverage? Otherwise I'll just mark my calendar to revisit this in 2017.

The only gotcha with COBRA is you do have to sign up for Medicare now if you are over 65, and there will be a separate premium for that which is not covered by COBRA. Still, not worth ditching COBRA to get a Medicare Advantage or IRMP plan, no way.

(ybd here) Then I totally get your confusion, OP. LOL The material they keep sending tends to confuse things. Just when I think I have everything straight they send something that makes me question myself.

I was also confused at the beginning when I did it online. I called health and benefits. They told me o just sign up bit not sign up for any coverages or deduction as we already have Cobra. Signing up is just for them to assign a Seems account for us. To to sure I also chat with a rep from health and benefits. She said the same thing. If you are not sure log into your health and benefits account and do a chat. It is faster than calling. I also sign up Cobra online..

@ybd. Nope, you're not missing anything... I was wondering if I was missing anything, what with the recent mailings on IRMP and the Retiree Medical Marketplace and pitch for Aon Insurance coaches. I'll have to assume HR was on autopilot with those.

I guess I'm totally not understanding your question. Why would anyone want to take extremely expensive IRMP, when paid COBRA is being offered by Intel? Also, since it's mid-year, I don't think things start all over deductible-wise, or do they? I think Intel is just picking up the tab for the next 18 months. If you want IRMP then get that after 18 months (opt in during the November Open Enrollment).

Did I miss something? lol
