Cost cutting and building the queue for when the market turns so we can immediately take advantage. Do your networking at lunch and after work, on the weekends, etc. I'm a baby boomer but never joined the Boomer network or any other network. I was too busy working so I could keep my job. This post shows why Chevron is likely going out of business. Many of the people on here have the emotional maturity of second graders and redneck mentalities. It may have worked in the golden era of high oil prices, but NOCs don't need IOCs much anymore and most of Chevron's reserves are overseas. You're not entirely correct, 5niv. I'm not a laid-off employee. I'm an active Chevron employee trying to do the best job i can and survive the cutbacks. The subject topic is what's being discussed here. I for one am not seeing the benefit of keeping them around anymore. They are a waste of company resources - both in terms of company fun dings and lost work productivity. Like a previous poster commented, these employee networks are a distraction and tend to pit one group of ethnicity over another. They don't promote anything sufficiently positive.
What's pathetic is laid-off people on the CvX butthurt losers forum insulting those of us who actually HAVE awesome jobs that we love. Just remember, children, "Find a job that you love, and you will never have to work for the rest of your life"!!
I'm the native Texan, and I happen to be a G+ay man and I'm proud of it. If you don't like it, I'll kick the $hit out of you with my pink cowboy boots. And there's plenty of us. We are proud of our Ga-y heritage here in Houston and our first female g-- mayor and plan to have many more. We are basically a Ga.y city and appreciate the rainbow support from Chevron. Practically all the employees who are participating members in these employee networks only get involved with them as an excuse to not doing their real job, the one the company hired them to do. They think the company really wants and encourages them to participate. Not true. Chevron doesn't mind so much if they FIRST, perform their jobs well and SECOND, also find time to participate in the networks. The thing is, most network participants see it the other way around.

Do you see what happens when a corporation pushes political correctness on everyone? Do you see what happens when you foster the creation of individual class network groups and force the predominant class to have to acknowledge it? You get push back, you promote division, you accomplish the opposite of what you wanted. It's a distraction, a waste of time and resources on the company. I suggest these network groups be eliminated by the end of 2016. Simply withdraw all funding and allowance for company time.

Whenever I see that little table in Covington with chicks handing out brochures for whatever network, I don't make eye contact and keep moving. Then I put it in my PMP that intend to go to all the appreciation events, and record the dates as if i went but then never do. I just go back to my cube and work. Best of all worlds. PMP credit and no waste of time.

So true, @Ito8t85-3gnx. Management only sponsors all of the networks to show what a great working environment CVX has. Maybe they even believe it but those networks promote exclusion, not inclusion. All of the wasted time over the years has not improved employee relations one iota.

What is pathetic is all the unnecessary Chevron networks that are allowed to thrive, wasting company time, resources and productivity. Those employees who waste their time involved in these networks may deny this, but the other 90% employees who are not network members see it as such. What did I learn from BEN, AEN, SOMOS just to name the main ones, other than getting a free snack and finger food once or twice a year during an event? Really, if the intent is to push a little culture awareness, thanks, but I already know where to get the best Fried Chicken (BEN), Kung Pow Chicken (AEN) and Burrito & Tacos (SOMOS). We all know the purpose for these networks in Chevron. They are only another way for the corporation to CYA and pretend we care.
