Chevron continues to lay off employees but not in mass that way they can avoid the mandatory notices and keep culling the herd.

The person who posted "They also have one of the best pensions and severance packages in the industry. It won't be long before Defined Benefits plans will go the way of the dodo bird." is 100% correct. I can't believe that someone in this thread is not aware that DB pensions are disappearing and DC plans are replacing them rapidly. I think someone has been brainwashed by being a Chevroid for too long. It's a common affliction.

Newsflash to the previous post. Offering early retirement is a very standard practice in all companies over a certain total employee headcount. It prevents lawsuits on age/retirement discrimination. So, nothing new about that. Many incompetent, but we'll connected people were moved around so that other decent people got axed.

The previous post stating "The previous post is pure BS" is pure BS. The post about Chevron reshuffling people and giving opportunities to people who want to early retire is 100% spot on. These posts are bs. Yes jobs have been cut. A lot of jobs. But Chevron has been open and transparent during the RAE, ROMs, and ESP. Yes they have been slow to initiate some of these but they have also worked some behind the scenes miracles to reshuffle the deck through early retirements and moves between BUs that have saved some jobs. No it hasnt been fun but nobody has come back from lunch and and their badge didnt work and been handed a box with personal possessions. Bthat is complete bs.

Email is bad, but the worst is when they revoke your badge access while you are out to lunch. And when you go to security to say there is a problem, they hand you a box of your personal stuff.

I am 54 and they asked me to go with an email. Definetely if you are above 50 writing is on the wall nothing to do with PMP ranking when I got 2 always.

No, it IS personal. Layoffs are personal. They destroy marriages, confidences and careers. (They) don't give a damn about it except their bottom line. I can't stand it when people say it isn't personal because probably it hasn't happened to them. I AM angry because my management should have tried other ways than laying off their best people that make too much or getting rid of people over 50 because I chose not to kiss ass I understand the O&G industry is crumbling but they could have reduced hours or furloughs until the pace picked back up. If @acj still has his job then good for them...but please don't try to explain the destruction of one's life by saying it's not personal. God speed to you... :)
