Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Frequency of the RAs

What freaks me out the most is the frequency of the RAs.

I think that I've had it, I need to act on my own terms rather than wait to be tapped out.

@lqy - on:

Things are so horrible now it's hard to get through the day.

I feel exactly the same - it's just a drag coming to work, not to mention all issues and under-staffing I need to deal with

I don't see the point of staying anymore. Before you could roll the dice and get RA'd and get a nice going away package and land a new job which I was fortunate to do. However, every lay-off the package is getting smaller and smaller which is the case at all companies who are going down the drain. I would not be shocked if the package goes down to 2 weeks or none at all and huge lay-off before 401K match. You have to ask yourself what's more important, few dollars or your peace & mind.

There are a lot of IBMers thinking the same way. I know a few that left recently on their own terms, and they are happy (we keep in touch). I am thinking that way too. I started to ask myself how I will feel when I finally get "that call" which will probably be in the next big RA next month (Aug), since IBM reported they have budgeted big bucks for more RAs. I will immediately be angry with myself for being a coward and not leaving on my own terms. I asked myself how I would feel if I left on my own, and that was a much better feeling. There was some incentive back when the package would have been six months pay, but now that it's only 4 weeks, you have to ask if your soul (and the ability to stand up for yourself and the pleasure of sticking it to IBM) is worth that. So, I am currently planning my grand exit. Have a bonus check to wait around for at the end of the month. I'd like to get the 401k match too though, we'll see. Things are so horrible now it's hard to get through the day.
