Not sure about other TAC centers . But , in Bangalore TAC . Many engineers have not been given promotions for a long time . Leave alone promos not even decent hikes were given . Most of the hardworking engineers left or were forced to leave using all sorts of tactics . Pathetic situation !!!

Having been in both - TAC is more on technical merrit, if you aren't the best technically and cant solve very difficult cases, you usually won't get promoted, unless you move into management. Tac has less opportunities to move up. Moving into BU escalation is common for the better ones. AS is more fluff. You can get promoted easier, even if you arent a technical superstar, especially if you kiss @$$
