Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Layoff several weeks behind schedule due to "organizational efficiency*

The layoff is running about 3 weeks behind schedule and continues to slip on a week by week basis. Affected names were due into Legal on 7/28 but the draft list was not ready as of 8/16. Apparently the cumbersome organization is hindering progress despite Cote's comment that the organization's efficiency is the impetus for the layoff.

Additionally, the layoff is being driven by Directors and select Sr. Technical Managers because it affects lower management and individual contributor positions. Ironically, they are now struggling and suffering with the organizational barriers and walls that they set up with this functional organization that, until now, they have been isolated from. Will they learn and correct the organization inefficiencies or will they continue to blame and punish the individual contributors?...I know what my guess is.

Look at Torrance - charts and Metrices all posted on the wall of Bldg 22 Tier 2 meeting area. Fools huddle every 9 a.m. as if they have improved the backlog - nothing! is all for show! they even had a stupid football table game! shows you how much they know of the products they make - nada!

To the commenter who said "Honeywell is a good company", I say that Honeywell used to be a good company. Now, it's all about making the execs rich. If you don't realize this, you're not paying attention. I'm grateful for the pay check, but I'm tired of being expected to do the job I was hired to do and the jobs of the "low cost" emsployees as well. It's time for all of us to stop working free hours to make Dave and his crony baloney's wealthy. If they don't like it, fire us and see how much work gets done by all the low cost incompetent fools.

The big wigs were relying on the UT merger. United Technologies saw through their BS and backed away very quickly. Now the wigs are scrambling. For a CEO who seems to be given "awards" all the time and a company that pats itself on the back for being family friendly and one that "cares about our employees" they sure have a lousy way to show it.

Yeah, I was grateful when I first started working for Honeywell and right up until they "transitioned" to Penang, Malaysia. Since then, the constant cuts in benefits, pay, via furloughs, reduced 401k match and bonus suspensions has made it so that many employees take home less pay today than when I first started nearly a decade ago.

It is so easy for someone who is about to retire to hint that we should let it go and focus on our projects. Imagine yourself where you are, but with 25 years left before you can retire. No pension, monstrous healthcare plan, and a 401K plan that is matched at 30 cents on the dollar as opposed to what it used to be. Then add a young family to it. Yes - I wished I could focus on work but I can't. We are planning for the worst. That is what we do when we no longer have the security of knowing we will have a consistent paycheck. Sorry for being human and letting uncertainty affect my productivity.

After several weeks of anxiety and agitation I decided to just forget the whole thing and start focusing on all my projects. I put in for the voluntary RIF since I am going to retire at the end of the year so have been disappointed in the lack of information and/or action. However, I have felt much better this past several weeks in getting my focus off the RIF and back to my work. I think it is best to focus on the fact that Honeywell is a pretty good company. Most companies focus on the bottom line such as ROI to stockholders, etc. The time where companies were more compassionate about their employees is mostly over so get over it. Have a grateful heart and do the work you were hired to do.

It's just downright painful to go to work these days. The waiting is really dragging everybody down. Any so called efficiency is more than shot now. Nobody's smiling, nobody's enthused, nobody cares, nobody knows if they will have a job tomorrow. Very depressing. Just get it over with, would you please? I think I'll call in sick tomorrow.

I think it is above Directors. And Directors are more likely to be layed off. Re-read the Mahoney letter.

Remember, it was the cumbersome organization that finally brought down General Motors. It could happen to Honeywell.
