Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

CLW / ISC

Word on the street at CLW site is the RIF is for 65 people total. 15 people volunteered and a few in ISC saw the writing on the wall and got jobs elsewhere and have left or are about to.

So that still leaves close to 60 people. Operators and touch labor will not be affected. The RIF will be the 3rd week of September spread through several departments.

Outer elbows are good as gone and the rest are picked by management. No real rhyme or reason. I was told this by a reliable old timer.

That's probably true but from what I heard, 15 were actually approved.

I think you are incorrect about the WARN act. The language at this government web site:

https://www.doleta.gov/programs/factsht/warn.htm

refers to "employment site". I do not believe that the WARN act applies to this layoff except perhaps at specific sites.

Furthermore, if the WARN act does apply, I do not believe that the email notice sent in July was specific enough to meet the notification requirements of the WARN act. If you believe I'm incorrect, please quote the relevant text from the website that I overlooked.

Layoffs cannot occur until a 60 day notice is given by law in the US... the "WARN ACT" which means layoffs can start around Sept 13 or after assuming notice was given July 15

The basic idea behind the WARN Act is fairly straightforward, the law is filled with technical requirements which can trip up supervisors and HR specialists. In a nutshell, the WARN Act requires businesses that have at least 100 employees to give 60 days advance notice of any mass layoff or plant closing to affected employees, unions, and local and state governments. To determine how many employees an employer “has” under the WARN Act, it must count all employees at every location, not just the location where employees are being laid off. A number of states also have WARN Act layoff notice laws that may be stricter than the federal law and may apply to smaller employers.

That is a lot of people, about 5% of the plant. It is going to hurt a lot long time dedicated old timers. It is most likely going to make life miserable for this who are lucky to have a job after the layoffs. That is, lucky until the next round, and the next, and the next, etc... It is obvious to us that Honeywell is targeting the older population. The sad thing is that it will loose so much tribal knowledge and ultimately a competitive advantage. Yes - your workers are an asset not a liability.

"The RIF will be the 3rd week of September" - is this announcing on this date or walking out on this date
