Another hit in Orange about 70 folks from Warehouse, Paint, and Assembly too. Not getting any better and slower.

NOV Orange Layoff & CA EDD - My Experience. Sorry to hear about the new layoffs at Orange. The following are a few things I learned from my layoff experience in March at Orange.
-
We were told by MGMT that HSA funds would be available until the end of the year. WRONG, they need to be used within your 60 day WARN period, and then call HSA fund to find out latest date to file claims. I attempted to access the funds after that period and the money was gone, it was returned back to NOV.

Did not have a good experience on my exit interview. Don't expect warm fuzzies, they are tying to get rid of you with as little impact to NOV as possible. They have you sign a paper saying you won't sue them, or they won't pay you your WARN and Severance money. It's ok to sign, because you have 7 days to change your mind and get a lawyer if you need one.

Don't apply for CA EDD unemployment until you need it. Unemployment is a bi-weekly payment that lasts 20 weeks ONLY, and the start date is the date you apply online. If you receive any other funds within that period, you won't get unemployment pay and you will loose money. So file for unemployment after your WARN and severance pay runs out.
You need to certify for benefits from CA EDD every 2 weeks to get paid. The following are questions they ask you to certify to:
*Were you too sick or injured to work?
*Was there any reason (other than sickness or injury) that you could not have accepted full-time work each workday?
*Did you look for work?
*Did you refuse any work?
*Did you begin attending any kind of school or training?
Select Yes only if you began attending school between 08/14/2016 - 08/20/2016.
*Did you work or earn any money, whether you were paid or not?
*Did you receive any other type of income such as the following?
Pension
Residual Pay or Holding Fees
Severance or Employment Separation Pay
Vacation or Hiatus Pay
Jury Duty
Sick Leave Pay
Holiday Pay
Workers’ Compensation
Wage Continuation Pay
Bonus
In Lieu of Notice Pay
WARN Pay
Witness Fees not including Mileage Reimbursement
Back Pay Award
Incentive Pay
Idle Time/Show Up or Stand-by Pay
Royalties
Supplemental Unemployment Benefits
Script Option Payment
Retirement Funds Disbursement (401k, etc) Lump Sum
Profit Sharing
Strike Benefits
Depending on how answer, depends on if you get paid, or by what amount.

Also note that the unemployment money is MINIMAL, you can't live on it. I am getting 30% of the pay I was on at NOV. Bottom line, get another job fast!
Sorry to hear about the bad news. Apply for as many jobs as possible, its only a numbers game. Good luck!
I still do
I don't make dreams I sell em!
Still no cuts to management, surprise surprise lol
That's NOV, some of the laziest people stay, & the best go. It's the same way at other plants.
And yet, many of the same "safe" losers are still here this morning, drinking their coffee, eating eggs and drawing a decent paycheck. The logic behind keeping some of the remaining people is mind boggling.
Might as well just close the doors on us. It was a good run
By end of the year next final hit on the way.
