Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Dear Lowell Mac@sshat,

I saw your new advertisement for Verizon LTE Advanced. When are you going to realize that the majority of consumers are shopping for services based on price first? Are you a complete moron? When is it going to finally sink in? The majority of us are not willing to pay twice as much for data service that will incur overages, just so we can download a video 10 seconds faster. Have you heard of this crazy thing called wifi hotspots? Come on Lowell, you must of heard about places like Starbucks, Panera Bread or the public library? All of these places offer FREE high speed internet access. Like most of the millennials that you employ, I am forced to live in my parents basement, because greedy corporate scum like yourself are permitted to get away with not paying a good living wage. Wake up grandpa, unlimited data at a fair price is what us millennials want and until you start offering it, we will continue to give our business to Tmobile and Sprint.

Sincerely,

Your Millennial Target Audience

@1crk

@wef here, just wondering where you find the "childish insults and name calling" you refer to in my post?

Perhaps you confuse me with the OP? I know you wouldn't want to "paint us all with the same brush" because you hate that. You can't be a hypocrite can you?

It seems to me though that "keyboard warrior" is intended as an insult, (not a very original insult but I am sure you did your best.) Aren't we all keyboard warriors when we post here? There you go being a hypocrite again.

I am glad you are proud of never treating your direct reports as inferior. But then again why would you? That doesn't sound like something to brag about. Just sounds like basic decency to me.

But that is the difference between you and me, what you call "childish insults" I call having a philosophy of life. I don't see it as childish at all.

I will say it again; when I see the petty harassment and suspensions that have been going on around here lately, I am glad I am not a manager.

And if there are any decent people doing that job, I feel sorry for them because they earn a living doing something that deep down they must know is wrong.

To your final point why don't I quit my job? Well 1st of all I did not say I hated my job, I said I am glad I am not a manager. You can like your job but disagree with the actions of current leadership.

"Why don't you quit your job" is a common refrain among mgmnt defenders, and indeed that is the purpose of all this petty harassment in the 1st place.

I am glad I am not a manager helping the oligarchs send America on a race to the bottom while falsely claiming to care about the customer. I am glad I have my own ethics and philosophy not some fake credo and that I don't drink the kool aid being passed around here lately.

So you keep that in mind friend "when you attempt to post your anger posts"... whatever that means.

Don't worry about highly paid employees. Big Red is on a mission to reduce headcount dramatically over the next few years. Secret layoffs continue through forced relocations and outsourcing. They have already shed 15,000 positions over the past 24 months. More to come...

Millennials your " now, and future " customers, are widely predicted to become the first generation in U.S. history to do worse than their parents financially.

@1wef You cannot have it both ways. Higher income and more employees equals higher pricing.

Your response is very broad to assume that management walks around terrorizing their employees. It is all about mindset and how you carry yourself as well as that individual. I am not terrorized and I have been management nearly 14 years and 8 as an associate. I have never given my management a reason to terrorize me or permitted it to occur. There is this thing called documentation and HR if it is needed and no I've never needed this.

And I agree with @sza that decisions are made by lower groups of management on what they perceived as being the solution at the time. No one is perfect but everyone attempts to do what is right for the business, the employees, and the customer. Just like you claim that you attempt to do right by your customer. Complaining here like a keyboard warrior with insults will not change your environment. We all agree to disagree but name calling seems extremely childish and nonproductive. Painting every manager with the same brush is disrespectful towards those who attempt to treat you with respect.

I personally am a 1st level manager and enjoy what I do. When I had direct reports I never treated them as inferior but as team members; I cannot get the work done without them. Keep that in mind when you attempt to post your anger posts towards the general population at Verizon. If you are that unhappy with your position then maybe it is time for you to seek employment where you will be much more happier. You only get one chance at life, why subject yourself to unnecessary misery?

@sza

Nothing personal just business eh?

I am glad I don't work in mgmnt, I can look at myself in the mirror every day, and know that I am not part of the problem in this world, know that when I go to work I am helping people, not terrorizing them. I am producing a benefit, not incubating fluff.

What we do in this life matters. Better matters right?

In what warped sense of reality do you live in, where most who make anywhere between 80k - 120k a year, not be considered a living wage?!?!?!? Even the the most rabid of all haters, still admit as far as most things are concerned, Vz pays its employees very well.

To the original poster:

With all due respect, i get the point you are trying to make...However, as someone who has been in the company for nearly 2 decades - please try and understand these decisions are not all the CEOs decisions...Insulting him is not necessary - he is actually a very pleasant and intelligent man....There are many people who consulted before these decisions are made...And maybe - just maybe these prices are high to save your job? Maybe if we cut prices we would also have to cut your dept?

If you dont get what i am saying - let me speak it in millenial language...Dont hate the player hate the game!
