Education Stipend...recommendations?

For those laid off, what are some creative (and approved) ways you spent your education stipend? Can I buy online courses? What about $2k in books?

Very easy, no questions, the field is completely unrelated to oil and gas. I received a nice letter wishing me well and a check in the mail, not taxed.

Yes, you can buy books, in fact I bought about 10 "related" books and took one class to get it as close to the $2000 as possible: there weren't enough lines on the form to list all of the books, so I added my own lines. APPROVED!

COP does not tax; IRS does tax. The W2 will include the educational reimbursement total. Not an education stipend, but a Educational reimbursement.
