Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Left Cisco due manager not giving me a raise, now project is delayed by a quarter

Would have been cheaper for my manager to give me a raise, now they are scrambling to save the project.

My point is you have the power not your manager.

JDxiH58-evs - Why does the company expect loyalty from the employees when it shows none to them? It's a dog-eat-dog world, and the employees who can get som eleverage over the bosses should use it.

Good for you. Cisco has gotten away with not giving raises for way too long. It's time they realize that good employees have choices.

To the previous posts, i am sure Cisco is taking into account all the hard work you have done before laying you off.

Trying to strong-arm your manager/company, is never good in the long-term.

You just can't be trusted anymore, as anyone knows that you're in it only for a money, and you will jump the ship as soon as you will have an offer which your manager can't match.

And abandoning a project during it's critical time is usually not a good thing on your resume either.

Ideally - your manager and HR should keep you compensated at the market level, as long as long you're performing well. If you feel they are not - talk about it. But do not threaten them. You may won, but that's a kind of win which will destroy your position.

Managers have no power to give raises out of cycle. The best they can do is go beg their next level up to go beg their next level up. You can threaten cajole and beg them all you like but it is unlikely to do any good.

It's really pretty simple, if you make the decision that you are unhappy enough with your compensation to leave, find another job and leave. Even if they do give you the money, you will just pay for it in the long run, you'll be remembered poorly at Bonus time, or RSU time etc.
