Is the OP being facetious a bit?

I must say, that to work somewhere for 20 years and have no acknowledgment is the worst case of a company who has lost any empathy with the common person who made the company. But I must ask, if you worked for a company for that long with no raise -- why did you stay? I would think that no raise in 20 years would show that the company did not care for 20 years. Not being mean I have only been working for 10 years in my life and I have changed jobs about once a year for better pay and better opportunities. I work at Sears now to have extra money but if they fired me or I lost my job it would be no big deal.

Just to let you know --Thank you for giving 20 years of your life to serve others, even though SHC did not care. I am sure many customers appreciated you.

I'm not the OP but feel as though I want to respond to the post by 1guw because It sounds patronizing to me. After giving 20 years of service to a company and have no acknowledgement upon retirement is terrible and just plain crappy and I have seen it happen at my store as well. It is very probable that the employee didn't earn anything above minimum wage. For example, Sears has not given any raises in the past 8 years or so. If the OP started working 20 years ago the minimum wage was about $4.75 an hour. Hypothetically.... after the first year the OP may have gotten a raise to $5.00, then the next year $5.50 etc etc... The current minimum wage is $7.25. If she did not hit $7.25 by the year 2009 then Sears would have been forced to pay her the minimum and would have bumped her up to $7.25. Perhaps she had already surpassed $7.25 and would have been earning slightly more than minimum. According to a co-worker of mine, she has been employed for about 20 years and she makes just over $9.00 an hour which is only $1.50 an hour more than my state's required minimum wage.

The OP very well could have been earning minimum wage at the time of her retirement since the minimum wage was lower 20 years ago and early raises would have only brought her to today's minimum level.

In a sense the statement of no raises is true. A new employee would start out at the minimum of $7.25 the same amount as the OP who had been there for 20 years. The 20 years time spent with the company showed no increase in pay as a new person beginning hence the reasoning that she received no extra pay after 20 years of service than a new employee starting today.

Lay off, she has a right to fell hurt and upset.

All of your metrics are feces. The customer is always right and the customer says Sears s---s.

I'm still curios what you did for twenty years and didn't get a raise. They stopped giving raises eight years ago.

Twenty years? Give some back ground please.

How many PAs did you get? How many credit apps did you get? How many SYW members did you get? How many base to bonus conversions did you get? How many recaps did you get? How many recaps did you close? How many sales with a Sears card did you get? How many "9" or "10" member feedback surveys did you get? How many ShopSears transactions did you get? How many water filter subscriptions did you get? How many attachments did you get? How many Know Your Members did you get?

You're only worth your metrics, you see...so what'cha got? Oh, you say you did your best? That's not good enough...you are not here for the customer, you are ONLY here to get PAs, credit, SYW, B2B, S2H, WFS, BOT, KYM, recaps and member feedbacks. Don't expect a whole lot in return...just be thankful you have a job with the World's Greatest Integrated Retailer (r).

Didn't get anything for 20 years of service? They didn't give you the standard 50cent 20 year service pin?

Sears hasn't given any of their lower wage employees raises in about 10 years. Perhaps the op may have gotten minimal raises during her first 10 years but hardly much at all. I have a co-worker who has been an mca for Sears for 20 years and is making $9 and change an hour.

You didn't get a raise in 20 years? What did you do for Sears?

Yes, they are horrible and I'm sorry you were treated that way. It's not personal, its just business, right? I've been with Sears for about 5 years now. I did my best, always completing my tasks and then some. In 5 years I called out sick once and called in late once (2 hours late for an appointment). Now hours in my store are being cut drastically. I'm scheduled about 5 hours a week. I sense they really want to unload a few people and would love for some employees to quit. None of the past work and dedication matters. I think about how my legs would ache at the end of the day and how much effort was put in. The execs need there $800,000 dollar salaries and $500,000 bonuses and a million dollars in stock options and my store needs to save on payroll. They can't afford to pay any more hours then they are currently scheduling at minimum wage. I'm not needed anymore and when I leave there will be no money left for a cake, a card or heaven forbid a gift unless of course you're in management and then they pass the hat around for the minimum wage employees to contribute towards a gift. They used what they wanted and now its time to move along. Its not personal , its just business, right Eddie?

I'm so sorry to hear that. That is is hurtful. We just had an employee leave after 10 years of service in our store and nothing was said. On the morning of her last day 2 other employees got in their car and drove across the street to Walmart to buy a cake and a card and whoever was there that morning signed it. The managers and leads did nothing and had nothing prepared. If it wasn't for these 2 MINIMUM wage employees taking it upon themselves to do something, nothing would have been done or said. Disgusting. I don't understand, it seems as though once people make it to management they lose their soul, compassion, humanness.

Wow...20 years and no acknowledgement. Not even a "thank you".

Sears in general doesn't care about their employees or their dedication, but there's a few store managers that do, albeit rare in this company. My old store manager would buy birthday cakes each month for all the employees. and other things out of her own money. She would consistently let us all know if we were doing a great job, and if an employee struggled with something (metrics) she would NOT threaten our jobs or talk down to us, she would help and encourage us. What's more, she was ALWAYS out on the floor helping out wherever she was needed. She inspired us and created a team that enjoyed being at work. With our new manager, it is the complete opposite.

It sounds like you have a manager and store management that is only there for a paycheck. Even an acknowledgement goes very far. It isn't hard to do. Morale must be real low in your store, which does affect the bottom line.
