Wireline employee here. You have no clue what you are talking about. There are a ton of metrics that clearly show that landline/residential is still in full decline. The price of landline and business phone service continues to plummet. Our wireline areas bleed profit ever quarter. Granted they still make us plenty of money for now. But the signs of continued decline are there.
Wireline won't fully ever die but don't expect it to survive as is at VZ for the short or long term. They will continue to sell it off and the pay/benefits you currently enjoy are sadly unrealistic for the future of this workspace due to VZ's terrible investments, its desire to switch to content advertising as its revenue driver, and the unrealistic pay/benefit demands from the unions.
Verizon wants to be the head "virtual" operator now. Resell everything and bleed the vz brand untill its dead. Wireline has absolutely no future here IN OUR LEADERS EYES and will be bled and sold.
Your soul will be bled dry and sold also. America has accepted NO SVC, dropped calls, R2D2 and C3PO noises, no data, data caps, garbled convos, etc... Like the frog in the pot of water, America has accepted it. Mediocre is the standard at best in this country and business. Verizon will be the invisible mvno sales machine. The Wireless Boom is over. The Wireless market is saturated and jammed packed with competition doing more for less. All you high horse wireless blowhards that were acting is if you could walk on water and that the sun rose and set on you are now crashing violently back to earth.
The money you so freely spent building your wireless utopian empire came from the core assets of the Wireline people. But in your blind selfishness and pure greed, you squandered their money flying all over the World and paying yourselves absorbent amounts in salary. You then tried to show wireline people the door as being antiquated.
The wireline staff have seen it all from being in business for over 100 years and know the dangers of c---iness, They learned, that what goes up, eventually comes down. They have been through the Great Depression and countless stock market crashes. The wireline staff prepare for those downs and survived through the smart planning of their forefathers.
The fall of Babylonian empire is coming as a great shock to all you wireless elitists. You should have planned and organized better while you had the chance, You should have listened to the wireline staff as they pleaded with you to join together as one, but instead laughed and mocked them.

Exactly what the below poser said. The union contract protects those centers. Also, it's not lost on me that 3 of the centers that are closing are not in right to work states with long standing union activity. If the company even gets a whiff that a center is considering unionizing it will be closed in a flash.
I'm not sure but I think due to union protection/ contracts they cannot touch landline workers (non managment). But since wireless workers are non union "at will " they can do what they want smh. So they cut costs due to things like GO90 failing and other things. They get rid of hundreads of retail workers , close stores , close 6 call center. .... because they can. I recommend wireless workers to call cwa and protect your jobs while you can.
Remember in the spring 40k members stood strong, and fought for there jobs and 40k kept their jobs.
Now you are all realiźing that wireless was built buy wireline ! Verizon is gonna go into a free fall . The purge has just started.
