As of June 30, 2016, Verizon had 162,700 employees, down from 178,500 employees the year before. Approximately 9,300 Verizon employees in Florida, California and Texas left the company in the first half of this year when it closed its deal with Frontier Communications; the remaining 6,500 employees were lost through a combination of attrition through retirement and negotiations, Ancin said.

I too was over 50 with perfect attendance and work record . I was effected by layiff as well. Work for Verizon 18 years just thrown out like garbage. Verizon is making a statement. Over 50 we dont need you.

I like to know how many people were over 50 or close to retire were let go. Verizon must think we are so dumb that age discrimination would never cross our thoughts better yet we are to dumb to do anything about it. Why hasnt the news reported anything about Verizons layoffs in California? Shame on you Verizon.
I too am over 50 2 years from retiring and was laid off. Sounds like age discrimination.

Yes last October I got replaced with a 20 something year old that was just hired 3 months before the reduction. And yes I was over 50 too.

Those numbers don't reflect the fifty somethings shown the door last year and replaced with foreign workers. The jobs didn't go away, just somebody else is doing them.
