Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

ES, OS and Solutions Managers - What do we all have in common?

In my area the people who were canned with severance was 75% female. Additionally, 90% of them had used STD or FML time.

I know the company is reducing overhead and making "decisions for business" but from what I am gathering they are eliminating people based on how difficult it is to term them under other circumstances: ie, attendence, performance, sales (doesnt apply), etc. Women are traditionally more expensive to hire than men, for example, because they use more benefits and time. Would everyone willing please post if there are any common denominators on your end?

It was all based on an algorithm of past historical performances of the certain employee. DMs had a list made with the GMs from each store but when reviewed with HR, they made adjustments to the list based on writeups for attendance and performance and conduct. SMs are going to have to do the work that ES and OS were doing then they will be fired when the system goes to non commission and you'll have only one SM one GM in a store and a few Lead Specialists.

I dropped my Verizon after I got RIF'd. I have T-Mobile now and it is great and 1/2 what I paid for the crappy Verizon service.

"Best way to fight back is to not use their product. When I am done at Verizon I am switching services. I will not stay with them. They didn't want me so I don't want them."

I couldn't agree more. I was RIF'd last year, over 40 and a woman and 18 years in. The only STD and FMLA I took was my 2 maternity leaves which had been many years before.

First off, I have been retired for a year and got out just in time. With that said, let me offer another theory as to why???? My wife worked in a bank 40 years and was eliminated along with 10 other personal bankers one at a time for very mundane reasons. She really liked this job and took this very much too heart causing her to blow her kidneys out due to stress and high blood pressure. She now is on dialysis and needs a kidney transplant. Point I am making........after 55, we have been told the cost to the company for medical insurance went from $4000 to $13,000 per year per employee. A common denominator here reading through these posts appears to be age. The cost of your medical insurance may very well have contributed to you being selected as a participant in this round of corporate downsizing. Don't make some lawyer rich trying to prove it instead move on as there is life after Verizon. Best of luck to all impacted. I personally have been down this road of corporate downsizing twice in my working career so I know how you feel. My time at Verizon merely brought up the markers at the end of the train. Again best wishes to all.

We were told the position was eliminated nationwide, affecting ALL ES and OS. However obviously some were eliminated and some were automatically absorbed into the new position and maintained their pay rate. This post is just about asking who was chosen in your area because obviously there was an algorithm or method used to chooae WHO lost their job and WHO did not. That makes it a selection process and not a national standard, and could possibly fall into discriminatory grounds. We are all hurt, angry and worried and a little knowledge or understanding would go a long way.

Has anyone heard of the WARN act. I heard some say that Verizon should be paying us 60 days on payroll not 30 days. Maybe we should all look into this. If anyone knows why this is not in effect for this current layoff. Did Verizon find a loop hole?

I agree with the statement .. They are getting rid of employees it would be to hard to term. They let the dependable and loyal employee go. How sad. Not only do we have to worry about paying bills but our insurance. Most of us dont know where to begin now that it is mandatory to have health insurance we have the stress of finding a insurance that we can afford being with the same doctor dentist and vision for 18 plus years how do we afgord to get the insurance that allows us to stay with them. Verizon corp we are humans real people not just numbers. Not that you care but I say again anyways . WE ARE REAL PEOPLE. NOT JUST A NUMBER.

I am a female and I was with Verizon for over a decade. I have never used Fmla or Short term disability. The last time I called I was well over 3 years ago. I got notified on my day off when my manager called me.

In my location it was 100% female. 90% had 18+years of service. Most about 2-3 years away from retirement. Its about the bottom dollar. Verizon is a sinking ship. Top exec. dont care about the frontline people. Doesnt matter how much time we invested in the company. Lets get rid of our longtime employees so they dont retire on Verizon dime. Use you and throw you away. To bad you dont have insurance ir a job. I dont understand how a retail store has 4-5 manager who dont do anything but layoff the people who really work.

This was a serious question, why can't people just answer the questions without all the drama? Losing a job is no laughing matter. I was laid off last year and it has not been easy.. Layoffs destroy many lives.

Short Term Disability (STD), utilized most commonly for illness, surgeries, etc. It seems like every year a couple people get kidney stones, flu or hysterectomies.
