Thread regarding Sears layoffs

What about hours for Thanksgiving?

Anyone know what Sears is planning for Thanksgiving Day this year? Just read that Home Depot, Lowe and hhgregg plus other stores and malls will not be open at all on Thanksgiving Day. Best Buy is still making a decision on its hours. Our store does not even have an electronic department any more.

Wondering what other stores are hearing on this subject.

We have electronics. Old items or over priced. We have three old VHS players for $89.99 and a few early 2000's MP3 players for $34.99. We also have some old floppy disc and VHS tapes. The other stuff we have is a few TV's, some clock radios, head phones and electronic accesories. Most of our stuff is priced 20-40% higher than the Wal-Mart 200 feet down the street. So you do the math, where would you shop?

The majority of the items in the electronics department either sold below cost or didn't sell at all. Getting rid of it makes perfect sense for 9-10 out of the 12 months of the year.....

Who's bright idea was it to take electronics out of certain stores. What is the use of shopping of Thanksgiving with no electronics dept. No electronics in Tulsa, Ok., Sears Stores.

Did anybody think the "Bring the Sleigh" theme last year was kind of ironic in the way? Like, load up the family minivan full of merchandise as Sears is liquidating it and going out of business? Bring your minivans, empty our stores, we are out!

What is this year's theme? I know it: "hey (member), come and get it, while I've still got it!" (based off of a 70'sh-- "Hey Girl, Come and Get It" by The Stylistics).

Our store, like many others, does not have electronics. Customers who ordinarily don't shop with us to know any better will come in expecting an electronics department. They get upset, vowing to never set foot in the store again.

All we will have is a box of headphones for electronics. Some people drive 50-75 miles with an ad in their hand for a TV and so on only to be told "we can order it!".

Last year was our first holiday without electronics. There was a big crowd that promptly left when they discovered we had none. So all that we have are $4.99 toasters and boxes of candy...people can get all that and then some at another place.

We will just be wasting our time. The doorbuster loss leader items will kill us as we won't have the volume to make up for it. Happy holidays Hoffman Estates!

If I had to guess I would say 4pm Thursday - 11pm Friday for Sears and 6am Thursday - 11pm Friday for Kmart.

Corporate will come out with a press release explaining how it will staff with volunteers and seasonal employees to cover the holiday and that the staff are all excited about not having to spend time with their families over the holiday weekend.
