Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Two job offers: IT and Services, which one has lower chance of LR?

Currently weighing job offers (two from cisco, few from some other companies). Within Cisco, I am being offered:

  1. Business Systems Analyst (within IT organization)

  2. Network Engineer (within services organization)

Which of these two positions would be "safer" from LR in the future?

The best you can do with these offers, is to take look for a job somewhere else, and use these offers as an argument in negotiations with a future employer.

In Cisco you can currently get "best of all worlds" - stability of a startup, compensation of IBM and in services you will work from home as if your CEO was Marissa Mayer. And if you're seriously considering IT, the I suggest - start working on your resume on your first day. If you're lucky, you will get to FY18Q1.

Q2 Layoffs have started in IT. Looks like Commerce, GITS and GATS (again) are impacted. Lots of Contractors getting 'no mas' calls from their parent vendor companies.

I see lots of Honda Odyssey and Acura MDX leases getting turned in early, in the immediate future.

It really depends on how you play the game with your boss and politics with others. Your best bet is to take neither.
