Salaries in Folsom and Santa Clara

A few questions:

Would like to get an accurate idea of Intel SW Engineer Starting Salaries in both Folsom and Santa Clara.

a) What does a Grade 3, Grade 5, Grade 6 and Grade 7 make in Folsom? Base Salary & Bonuses &

Stock.

b) What do equivalent Grades make in Santa Clara?

c) Do H1B from India make less in same grade? If so, by how much?

d) What do equivalent level people at the big 5 make? (Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft, Google, Apple)

What grade is the minimum one could possibly be if they were a first level manager? (even a

lowly validation manager that oversees contractors and technicians mostly).

The H1B question is tougher.

The starting salaries by law for H1B need to be the same as non H1B.

However, you do not need to give H1B people promotions as fast because they are forced to stay in their jobs until they get their green cards.

In deciding to live in Folsom versus Santa Clara, you should approach this with a long term perspective.

The only high paying software jobs in Folsom are usually working for Intel or as a contractor at the State of California. Both are high risk jobs as they can go away at any time and not leave you a fall back position.

Living in Santa Clara there are many companies to work for and you can change jobs without changing addresses.

The issue with Santa Clara is the cost of living.

My two cents, living in a large city while you hone your skills and as yo approach the retirement window, then entertain moving to a retirement area.

Difference of 15-25% and depends on job grade
