Thread regarding Wal-Mart Stores Inc. layoffs

Layoffs in the HO

Someone accidentally leaked that the Market Assistants and Regional Assistants jobs are going away. This is about 400 associates company wide and will save the company around $2M a year. These associates are supposed to be given opportunities in the stores. These group of associates were hosed badly when the $9 and $10 pay rates were implemented and in most cases they will get pay raises if they accept positions in the stores. They currently have a (roughly) 9-5 job but moving to the sales floor in a store will give them typical retail hours that fluctuate.

UPDATE: The market assistants' jobs are not going away. They are shifting their responsibilities. More work for the same pay.

The Market Assistants and Regional Assistants are hourly associates. Some in the $17-18 an hour range. I know how the law will impact salaried but not hourlies. I have someone on my team getting a pay raise and looking forward to it.

If those jobs are classified as exempt positions their pay would have to go up to a salary of $47,476/year as of December 1, 2016 with the new DOL law. Depending on where those people are from a salary standpoint prior to the new law might be why those positions are going away. The current threshold for exempt (executive, administrative, or professional employees) is $23,660/year. Walmart might be looking to cut a bunch of people who were classified as exempt management who were paid at the low end since the new law will force them up to the new salary minimum.
