Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Intel can no longer afford the irrational exuberance of mobile

Eventually things catch up. Intel core businesses are under threat. Internally few use Intel solutions. Externally Intel supports a single customer with a loss making product. Management no longer talk about growth in this segment. How much longer will the idiots by allowed to ruin the asylum?

Revenue is dropping but fab an operational costs are not.

This can't be sustained.

As long as there is no alternative to microprocessors for laptop/PC and servers, nothing will change. Intel will continue to make billions every quarter (13.53 billion revenue per quarter), sure its dropping but its still a lot of money. x86 remains a cash cow as long as there is no alternative for consumers. Nothing will change, the bozos will still continue cooking the books, spending unnecessarily and throwing $, buying other companies in hopes of being a part of the next big thing. Look at depts like IoT, MIT, $ is thrown freely, endless amounts of budgets with no questions asked on spending. And when they run out of cashflow, Intel will just issue another debt or layoff more folks. The highers ups will continue to enjoy themselves. A close friend once told me, Grove was one of the earlier founding folks. He runs Intel with passion and does what is right for Intel's growth. BK is just a professional manager. He makes decisions that are favorable to him and continue to keep him in power to milk Intel. He hired Murthy not just as a hatchet man, but if things gets worst in 2017, BK will likely push the blame on Murthy and let Murthy be the fall guy in 2018. Murthy knows it too, thus the $25mil sign in package.

I would really like to see some alternatives for laptop/PC/server, I hope AMD for this once don't screw it up like they always do and deliver on Zen.

Indeed.

The cost structure at Intel is totally out of whack with what is required to compete in commodity markets.

BK is busy prepping for a new reality tv show.

How many billion can he lose and how fast?

BK will make intel great at commodity buisness. I think that's why the board picked him and is hanging on. Not so easy to re-plumb a system with 30 years of sludge in the pipes. Give the man a chance. If you happen to still have a job ignore the noise and make a difference.

Hey there was the silent ACT last year and ACT this year, what do you mean management is working on it.

Intel has efforts in memory to compete making commodity memory against the likes of Micron and Samsung.

It has efforts in modems another commodity and cutthroat business competing against Qualcomm and others.

It is going after IoT a business 5 dollar chips and less that is also going go to the lowest cost producer.

It is now trying foundry but this year will be surpassed in technology by TSMC and Samsung who have larger customer base and huge factories and volumes.

There you have it competing in high volume low cost cut throat business with a monoplolstic cost structure and management built on 30 years of selling $100 chips with little competiton.

I predict spectacular success, LOL
