When I retire in 13 years there will still be trolls on here saying that wireline and the union is dead.

XO will be the last mile to towers, and so will Verizon Business.

Wireline is far from dead.

Copper may be heading that way, but FIOS is not.

I still do not think 5G will replace FIOS.

I have a DSL (do not live in a VZ zone), and we use a ton of data.

I currently pay for unlimited data at 10Mb/sec.

I see demand rising, and do not think wireless will replace a pipe.

Also, we have the pipe between towers, etc.

Cannot sell wireline (Gov't stuff), and price.

The strike is lone over, get used to it.

Work together so we ALL can keep our jobs.

IMO...if Verizon is the pipe why not focus on that, invest in that, and be the best pipe out there?

The pipe is the gateway, the keys to the internet that all these companies depend on.

First of all, you are either ignorant or being disingenuous when you state that wireline is only used for second access fax lines. A sane definition of wireline would include FIOS and t1's; clearly these products are not "wireless".

Major companies and office buildings do not operate on wireless. Nor do most people access the internet in their home on wireless plans unless they simply have no other option.

If wireline were as obsolete as you claim, why are there major metropolitan areas where not a single field tech has been surplused?

So what has really changed? The wireline service that will be important going into the future will be for high speed internet. People no longer require POTS dial tone in as great numbers or set top cable boxes, but they still need and want wireline high speed internet. Lie to the public if you wish, but don't peddle your baloney here.

Our company failed to predict these trends or they would not have bothered with getting franchise to sell video. The value of our product is in fast internet. Let the end user decide what to view or how to make a phone call, they will still want the fastest wired internet they can get in their home or office.

Second, it was the foundation in wireline that allowed us to make these forays into other areas. Starting off with the strong foundation from wireline, and selling off all the wireline assets provided the launch. Now granted wireless did well, but it was also during a bonanza period the "golden age" of wireless. Mistakes were still made though, such as the iPhone.

I will grant you this much, our company is no longer interested in paying good salaries and benefits or having a unionized workforce, or in having obligations to the public. That is why they lobbied so hard against title 2 with their dishonest "telegraph" ad. The truth is we need a second version of the Rural Electrification Act that would apply to high speed internet. This could bring back depressed areas of our nation.

Unfortunately, our company seems to no longer value or consider our product as a utility that people need, unless there is some advantage to it like right of way or forcing employees to come to work during a blizzard.

So they will continue to Union Bust and to lobby the Govt. and lie to the public. They look enviously on companies that have few employees and no public obligations.

But you can't spend millions trying to turn your horse into a butterfly and call it "strategy"

Regardless of strategy, wireline is not out of the woods. It will be like having a second access line for a fax machine-a dinosaur saddled with an expensive work force, to boot. That model does not work, it is not worth spending more capex to maintain or to expand. It should be an 'as-is' sale, and must include the workforce. With a clean slate, the company has a better chance of executing on a strategy. Let someone else deal with work stoppages.

What happened to the go90 "strategy"?
