Thread regarding Wal-Mart Stores Inc. layoffs

Six of our greeters were forced to RETIRE!

Just like the replacing of people greeters with the new 'ap' position at the door. 6 of our greeters were forced to RETIRE! They say it'll cut back on shrink...

We had coverage with the people greeters from 7am-11pm. Now? it's door coverage from 10am-8pm. it's younger people, getting paid more to do the same EXACT thing we did at the door.

Only they don't have to mop when it rains. They don't have to sweep. They don't have to pick up trash. They don't have to wash windows... But it was an improvement according to them!

Not all back office people will find a place within the store, just like our 'older' and 'disabled' greeters didn't.

The turn over at a store is astounding. All of those people, if they so choose, will be able to move to a job on the sales floor. And have the same opportunity to move up. 2/3s of store managers started as hourly. When Walmart had greeters they were mocked. If the eliminate greeters they are mocked. Manage the business, there will always be critics...

Although I understand your point, the apch role does have to sweep, mop, pick up trash, wash windows, put out mats, and on top of that work an mc40 and printer in the new express refund program.

I hear you about displacing the people greeters, but a lot of them couldn't physically or mentally handle the new programs in place.

Being in ap for 6 years makes you see how useful the new role can be. Plus we can adjust their hours to be earlier than 8 and later than 10.
