Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

I predict Intel will not exceed $37. I also predicted 40k headcount reduction in 2017. I still stand by both predictions.

Moron OP here. By Friday this irrational exuberance will be directed. Intc <$37. 10,000 headcount reductions this year, 30,000 next. I just underestimated stupidity of management.

Hello?

How about this bold prediction: AMD will hit $20 before Intel hits $40.

9dpb here - The converse to this is that I am also going to make sure I that I have capital losses on underwater investments up to the $3000 maximum for deductability in 2016.

I can always buy them back later at a reduced basis, but since I'm not paying capital gains taxes anymore, I have everything to gain.

Glad to hear someone else is taking advantage of zero capital gains taxes @9dpb. You're the first person I've run into that knows about it. :) It's been The Plan for me for several years now to sell my stock in a few years time after I retired (ERP this year so that part of The Plan starts in 2017).

9cbv here. Zero capital gains isn't for everyone. Lower income people (10%-15% brackets) can thank President Bush for this one. :)

Here's it in a nutshell: http://www.bankrate.com/finance/taxes/no-capital-gains-due-for-some-investors-1.aspx

Here's more info into the mechjanics of it if you're in the lower tax brackets (so doable): https://www.kitces.com/blog/understanding-the-mechanics-of-the-0-long-term-capital-gains-tax-rate-how-to-harvest-capital-gains-for-a-free-step-up-in-basis/

You need to read up on this yourself, but basically if you are in the 10% and 15% tax brackets, long term capital gains are not taxed by the federal government. I'm ERP, and In 2017 I would fall into this situation. For a couple filling jointly this could be a gross income of nearly $100K and a taxable income of $75K or less. As always there are limits and restrictions, but this is why I am waiting to sell stocks with gains after this year.

@9cbv OP here. How do you get 0% tax. I thought long term capital gains was lower but not zero? By the way you can set up a collar options trade to lock in the gains pretty much for free. Search Google. I may have got the top wrong but for sure we are hear the top. Good luck with your trade and retirement.

Actually I retired early @9enw (ERP). ;-P Just happy to see it go up and hope it stays in 'decent territory' next year so I can sell some at zero capital gains taxes as per The Plan. ;)

@JhlHwbL-9cbv LOL does the price enable you to retire or just a month or two of salary? Sorry a pick up I. X86 demand and pop in the price puts 10nm and Canon amd Icelake on schedule? All of a sudden. The price made the 14nm modem working or the lead 14 FPGA healthy? Suddenly the future is so bright because of a move in the stock what a bunch of retards you all are!

Now if the the stocked moved up because iPhone7 reverse tear down showed it had Intel 14nm modem, or if BK announced Apple was doing A11 on Intel 10nm and fab42 was getting equipped up and the ramp was pulled in, I'd hold my stock LOL

Hahaha yes it' s all business, Man.

But think like this, no more hight tech company will stay in US.

Why not delocalize everything in India or China, it's cheapper. It's all business ...

Thinking like this I predict a disaster for America.

Yzz here.

I love my Ultrabook convertible 2-in-1

I enjoy the compromises of trying to do everything at once but nothing done well.

I enjoy taking on the role of an IT manager to run my PC and vigilantly protect it against viruses and malware. Isn't that why we bought mcafee?

I especially enjoy paying premium monopoly prices to enjoy the Windows experience.

Who wants to login to their PC with a precise password or rock solid fingerprint detection when I can try and fail multiple times with realsense fave detection. I would pay extra for that.

I also enjoy touching my screen to operate excel spreadsheets with my fat fingers and other Windows applications that were built with tiny buttons designed for precise mouse clicks.

Intel has spent a lot of time thinking through the user experience of owning a PC. It's like they've read my mind.

I expect PC sales to take off this Christmas.

I agree 40K next year would be a total mess. However, 20K in 2017 and another 20K in 2018 could be possible. Stock price is probably hitting highs right now with a long way to go down, as soon as Q3 earning reports are out.

40k layoffs would be armageddon. No chance that happens without much much larger issues.

And if BK is around in 2018 then armageddon might just happen.

I agree on the longer scenario - 2-3 years for the current set of strategies and technological walls to play themselves out. The stock will only get hit hard if the server MSS starts seeing actual erosion vs just perceived threats. Until then it tracks the market.

All wrong!! Buy backs are keeping it propped up and investors want the dividend payout and will wait. I say give it 3 years and this sh*t is gonna hit the fan in a major way. 40k-50k layoff with 30billion revenue and lower profit margins to boot. In the meantime stocks stay propped up!

PCs are coming back.

People love Windows 10.

They want touch on their Ultrabooks.

They will pay up for realsense.

I won't predict how high the stock could go, but i will absolutely agree the stock will be below 30 by middle of 2017 and 20 by 2018 and BK will be gone in 2018. It would be better if the BOD had a clue and would demand straight answers to hard questions backed up with data from BK, Murthy, Diane, and Sohail, if they got that heads would roll sooner and the company might not need 40K reduction and get by with 15-20K in TMG and 5K in product, but if they lies continue 40K is likely
