Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Upsetting observations

I've put together a list of reasons I've become upset at Honeywell since starting to work for them. No one "nail in the coffin"... just an accumulation of slights I've observed

  • Layoffs happened at the start of 2016. About 6 months later, a second round of layoffs was announced and Honeywell asked for volunteers. While it's rumored to happen next week, the threat of not having a job has been hanging around for over a month. Talk on this forum suggests it was supposed to have happened already, but the high volume of volunteers is causing a delay

  • Further "cost saving measures" have been confirmed. There is already the 1-week furlough this month. No raises this year (again). I've heard rumors of another 1-week furlough later this year (maybe over Christmas).

  • Dave Cote sold $60 million of company stock before a sale of part of the company. Executives continue to make salaries in the millions of dollars while employees get furloughs and no raises.

  • In a recent town hall, a question was asked about how to retain young engineers in this atmosphere, the given answer was "we are all in this together", and be thankful for having a job. Listing other companies that are going through layoffs, trying to make HI sound better.

  • That same town hall showed prioritizing investors over employees. Nothing new, just brash in how it was presented.

  • For the last several years, merit based raises have NOT been given out, even while the company boasts double digit profits and buys other companies. Cost cutting measures have been implemented to fudge figures (no overtime, furlough).

  • Honeywell continues to stop investing in its employees. Benefits are cut (pension) or reduced with the promised to be restored (401k), diminished (education reimbursement now requiring a 1, 2, or 4 block)

I was employed by Honeywell for over three decades and never worked less than a 50 hour week. Most were 60+ hours of long, hard, intensely dedicated days and weekends. I witnessed the attitude changes over the years when people looked forward to coming into work to the sheer dread if it, as more and more layoffs resulted in heavier workloads year after year. Management never got that you can't cut the workforce by 30% every year, while increasing non-value-added metric-chasing, requiring change for the sake of change, and continue to get the work done without everyone putting in ridiculous hours. And there was never a thanks for doing so. Never. I got hit earlier this year and was glad to finally be done. Three decades of complete dedication and they gave me about a half hour to clean out my desk, hand over my laptop, phone, etc, and was given a good kick in the rear. They didn't bat an eye at doing so.

I'm sorry but you sound shocked. HON is not unique, the corporate compassion for globalism has caused our demise. It's going to get worse, technology has always competed with human labor and the outcome has always been the same, technology wins, mix and stir with capitalism and get used to a much lower standard of living. Much like the third world only a little better.

BTW - It is very Un-American for a corporation to pressure its employees to support their views. What I best for America is not necessarily best for Honeywell. Cote you should be ashamed of your self!!!!

Time for the younger amongst us to change industries and get out of Aerospace. There is no future for Aerospace in the US since all of the companies are moving off shore. The US government needs to start cracking down on this trend or countries like North Korea will be obtaining our most secret technologies from China. Honeywell = Pro Investors = Anti American. Start writing your Senators and ask them to make it far more difficult to move commercial products that have a military value out of the US.

I find it upsetting to see my friends and coworkers have their lives turned upside down, to be physically and emotionally distraught. To see good people leave. To see employees just going through the motions until they are let go or choose to leave. It all makes no sense. While all along our "leaders" tell us how difficult the environment is, while raking in millions. That I find upsetting.

Add: Aggressive sales pitches for participation in the Honeywell PAC, made during working hours using company resources, that include vague threats of increased chance of layoffs at that site or site closure if the PAC participation rate for the site is not improved.
