Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Open letter to Intel CEO/HR, how can you justify posting external requisitions and hire external candidates with same experience as ACT victims?

Can Intel HR atleast fill job reqs from internal redployed employees first before hiring external candidates? How can they justify and feel good about hiring external while several deserving internal candidates are desperately looking for jobs while getting redeployed? Isn't there an external hiring freeze set by Intel HR?

I know an admin that was hired externally the end of July. The only admin experience she had was her time as a GB so it's not even like she was highly experienced as an admin. Sure, she did a good job, but I was surprised they were hiring externally a mere month after the end date (6/24) for folks.

On the other hand... I heard a LOT of the experienced admins took packages so they were down a lot in that field, Maybe that's what allowed it. No one internally to choose from.

Intel already has an hiring freeze for experienced external hires and the manager needs to get approval from VP for a hot position. IMO, mostly the hiring is happening for RCG's which Intel always does through the years.

I am sure Intel understands that it may be grounds for lawsuits if it hires new employees with similar background and experience as of ISP employees.

I took VSP and was denied unemployment benefits in Oregon. I requested a hearing. When I had gone into the unemployment office I was given the impression that they were approving unemployment benefits for VSPers. Anyone been approved?

I can undertstand hiring fresh college grads/RCG, but how can Intel post requisitiona and hire experienced candidates with similar experience as the ACT/redeployed employees?

@JjBwXgK-2fpl. My 10 years of building up a role I thought was valuable has been handed off to an intern. I cannot believe the intern has the judgment or skill depth to really handle the position at a quality level. I presume it as been gutted and the intern manages the facade so they can say the function is covered--and on the cheap. It really does make business sense if you are a company in trouble. I totally understand.

@JjBwXgK-2cgr. No formal redeployment option for ISPs though VSPs and ERPers had the option to move to new position if they could find one in time. I know two people who did that successfully. Some ISPers have had their decision revoked and I presume are now in the redeployment pool. Some people who were VSP that declined were subsequently put into the redeployment pool. But, like SET, ACT was not generally a redeployment, it was a HC reduction.

Was there even a redeployment pool offered @OP? I could be wrong but didn't think there was. Maybe in other groups there were.

Seems like projects are still being canceled. ACT is not yet over. Reqs for younger workers seems to be the trend. The expectation is that the newly enslaved younger workforce will catch up and produce, even if it means lower overall quality of product.

Murthy's contract cost Intel 15000 workers wages. That's a fact.

ERPer here that was denied and I'm looking. It was considered "voluntary" to them. At least for me it was and I mentioned the hard messages in various org's Open Forums that those that were offered and didn't take the package would result in a much less desirable package shortly after since that WAS the message.

However, if you try and are denied, and then get a job and lose it shortly afterward, you can reapply but your benefits will be drastically reduced. At least they won't be nothing should that happen.

Good luck with that. :)

i've been told by recent applicants to Oregon unemployment that they are being rejected as ERPers. An earlier thread on that topic in this forum stated it would be fraud. Yet I hear stories of some people being approved. I've certainly been job hunting! Maybe I will take a chance and at least apply. I can certainly easily document and prove job hunting activity. This thread has been the most useful in awhile. Was starting to lose hope with all the trolls, racists, haters, and strategy second-guessers. Thanks everyone who's staying on topic and informative.

@olo - Same situation as you as far as the layoff etc - I am an HW Engineer and I am not having any offers in Oregon. Some interest in Seattle and the Bay area. What is your advice in Oregon for HW Engineer?. Stay and keep trying or leave? 20yrs at Intel also.

BTW congrats on the new job

@ezy re: If you are doing an unemployment work search history, then you were an ISP? I was told ISPs cannot come back to Intel.

he never said he wanted, or could return to Intel. He said he was using "using it for my unemployment work search history so it's in the books."

That doesn't mean he wants or would get the job It simply means he was jumping the the Employment Office's hoops showing that he's apply for jobs on a weekly basis. You don't have to apply for a job you can actually get for your hoop jumping. You just need to apply. lol

@JjBwXgK-ezy -- nope, I was VSP'd but was advised by two Intel HR reps to file for unemployment benefits in Oregon. I've accepted another job already, starting next month, and have attended both REA meetings with WorkSource w/o an issue (I am part of the ACT/reorg just like everyone else -- this was all about getting rid of 12000 highly-compensated people however ruthlessly they had to). If the state wants to deny it after all this, that'll be interesting and I will contest it and use that wonderful hi-pressure letter as well as pointing not only my own experiences but those of many others to show how Intel was behaving and actually DID ask me to leave (many times through their actions), just in a way that they could get around paying higher unemployment taxes -- WorkSource can investigate the big fish here to see who should be paying more. If Oregon doesn't figure this out after two rounds now, surely they will come the next rounds, right? And there will be a next...guranteed. And after 20 years of employment with never once collecting anything from the state, I think collecting less than $5k in 2 months between jobs is small potatoes compared to what they should be charging this corporate giant. But, hey, what do I know right? I hope Intel enjoys their lower paid H1B and RCG replacements -- as they will reap what they sow. I have 20 years of them on my resume so I truly wish them well but something just doesn't feel right here...feels quite yucky actually.

Intel wants to pay less.

Intel wants higher performance employees.

Simple.

@JjBwXgK-elz. If you are doing an unemployment work search history, then you were an ISP? I was told ISPs cannot come back to Intel. Hopefully they have changed that? And in my state at least, VSPs and ERPs are being rejected for unemployment payments.

Maybe they'll do some work now for what they are being paid.

I saw something very similar to my own position advertised almost immediately--except for one exception. I had filled the role as a senior employee and crawled my way up the compensation ladder, while the current ad lists the same responsibilities but states the job is entry level. A colleague of mine who was also senior level tells me he had to hand the reins over to two RCGs. Another senior colleague who was lost due to that relocation nonsense was absolutely vital to the team and now they are opening a req. With the heavy ERP/VSP targeting, you are by default going to eliminate all the older, more highly compensated individuals. Rehiring for those positions with RCGs or entry level Grade 5s is going to save Intel a lot of money. I've also seen temp agency jobs looking for senior level admins. Again, those folks were the most likely, if older, to find themselves in ERP/VSP territory. My old group lost all its admin level people and most of the rank and file. Mostly managers are left. One colleague working in the group tells me she is heinously overworked because she has absolutely no support anymore yet has global responsibilities. When she complained, they suggested an RCG.

Totally ridiculous. It's all part of BK bonus for implementing and succeeding in $300M diversity initiatives. This in itself should be illegal and he should have federal charges against him for age and racial discrimination.

I am qualified too for a lot of the positions. All these are H1b ads. The reality no 'American' will apply so the one they got gets to stay.

On a seperate note of course they lost people that were good. Most are lucky and got new and better jobs on other ships as the titanic is sinking and more bodies are going into the wate like another 29-40k, LOL

Based on the policies , i suspect its just top down approach.

A company with more money , can hire and fire at any time. If needed recruited new people with hire package.

My thoughts exactly....saw a job posting THIS week for a position that I could have filled perfectly. I'm going to apply and use for my unemployment work search history so it's in tbe books. So frustrating -- yet makes me once again so happy I'm no longer part of that disfunctionality.
