Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

How do they do it? (Calgary)

I’m extremely nervous, never been laid off before, but if it’s gonna be another round, I am sure I’m gonna be on the list. Noting firm, just have that horrible gut feeling. Does someone know how they usually do it? Are you being called to a meeting in conference room? With HR only? How long does it usually take?

I EOI'd so may be slightly different, but was called to a room with supervisor and his supervisor, and HR. Got the packet and the speech. We discussed when my last day would be which was actually a week or so later. Not much drama.

I was called into a meeting room and my boss said today is you last day with conocophillips, it's been nice knowing you basically.. Then some contracted HR lady tried to talk my ear off about what my options are and what my package included and I told her to cut the crap, give me my package and let me go get my stuff. She promised to call me the next day to see how I was holding up but I never heard back from her.

I'm in Calgary too. Good luck, hopefully there is nothing for you to be nervous about. 48 hours and you'll know either way.

In Calgary you will get a call asking you to come to a boardroom. So if you see "ConocoPhillips" on your phone display, that's what it means 😔

There will be an HR person in there and your Supervisor and they'll give you an envelope with all the related papers. It takes about 10 minutes. They will likely let you pack up your stuff and say goodbye to your co-workers.

Best of luck to you, whatever is supposed to happen will happen. Either way you will be ok, trust me, it may be for the best! Take care!

Its a lot like a prostate exam. Lots of worry up until the day. You wake up the day of with some degree of acceptace. Into the meeting room you go. With the snap of a rubber glove and the Dr (HR in this case) asking you to say their name its all over quickly. The only damage is too your ego.

Last year in Houston my supervisor came to my office and had me follow him into a conference room where an HR person was seated at the conference table waiting for me. My supervisor then spewed the corporate line (about 30 seconds) and left me alone with the HR person. At that point they go over all of the termination proceedings etc.. I was then allowed to go back to my office and retrieve my belongings and say goodbye to colleagues and send a couple of final goodbye emails. Not a fun day.
