How much is the salary % (percentage) increment when moving from one grade to another?

a) Specifically from Grade 6 to Grade 8 and from Grade 8 to Grade 10

b) How much of time does it take to get salary increments when on a grade and between grades?

1) Just to understand your response regarding India : You mean that when you move from a Grade 6 to 8 and from a Grade 8 to 10 the hike percentage remains at 4-5% . Can you confirm this ?

2) Need to also understand the concept of CR ( Comp Ratio) as it is not clear.

"Nice insights . The information on India promotion is slightly incorrect generally it is only 4-5 % from what has been seen so far."

I have only seen that at that one promotion level. Every other grade level is usually at that 4-5%. I know when I promoted someone from an 8 to a 10 that I had to give a huge raise just to get them to a CR of about .85. I remember it clearly because the employee didn't believe me at first when I told them how much of an increase they were getting.

I have no idea why there is such a large gap at that level.

Hm... Grade 6 to 8 in UK was (significantly) more than 8% for me.

The other thing is that at leaat in some EMEA countries with grade bump you may become eligible for some extra perks or money. Like car allowance or company car, which often has quite substantial value.

If you are getting a promotion within the same group it is 4-8% with it usually being 5%. In 18 years at Cisco (ending monday) with 16 of those being a manager, I've never even heard of someone negotiating a raise if they are being promoted in the same group. Most managers will never even confirm that someone is being promoted until they have the webletter in hand as until it is fully approved anything can happen.

If you are changing groups, and getting a promotion as part of a job change, you do have some room to negotiate, but remember there will be 10 candidates for every position and you don't have an enormous amount of leverage.

The only place I've seen a large jump like that on promos is in India from an 8 to 10 where there is an insane delta between the comp ranges. In that case you will see 20%.

Anyone telling you that you can negotiate a raise if being promoted in the same group has either been insanely lucky or is just trolling.

Really!!! I never knew one can negotiate a salary raise percentage for a promotion . Generally, they don't give you any clear information before a promotion.

Has anyone negotiated a salary raise percentage with a promotion so far ? What are the steps to get this done?

Up to 20-30% if you are good at negotiating.

What do you mean with negotiating? Your manager informs you of your promotion. How do you negotiate? "I'm only agreeing to get promoted if you give me 25% higher salary - if not, I insist staying in my old grade level!" ???
