The current state of PCG WLY - with Captain Kieth Philips guiding the NOV PCG WLY ship

This is not written in malice, it is a realistic evaluation of the current state of PCG WLY. The intent is to clarify the reasons why this facility struggles to manufacture and assemble its own products.

It doesn't matter how many management shuffles are made at WLY, the TECHNICAL RESOURCES and SYSTEMS do not exist to elevate this facility. The current MFG operations teams on site are old school pushing manufacturing techniques straight out of a 1980's playbook. There are plenty of people who know how to push at WLY, but pushing only leads you to the next obstacle to push. The facility needs modern robust manufacturing systems. NOV is way behind the curve and haemorrhage's cash as a result. No surprises here, put garbage in you get garbage out.

Keith Philips is a straight shooter and takes no prisoners, but desperatly needs to replace a few key players who do very little to help him and would rather live in a world of smoke and mirrors. Does he have the political strength and vision to know who's hurting him and what he needs to do to turn the corner? Hard to say, but it's a fascinating story to watch unfold. Maybe watch the color of his hair and temperament as an indicator?

As a result of the status quo, Mr. Philips and his management team continue to wrestle with PCG WLY delivering mediocre results. Management makes things difficult for themselves when the solutions and strategies are simple. The bottom line is the entire management team need real education to give them the confidence and tools to drive in the right direction. Cleaning house of the deep rooted establishment should be top of Mr. Philip's agenda!

It's the recurring story of the big players in the Oil & Gas industry. Until margins shrink and the competition erodes sales, real sustainable change will not happen, thus cultivating the current perpetual state of lost revenue and bad decisions to continue.

Good luck over at PCG WLY, you will need it!

By the time it is on a spreadsheet - it is too late and already happened.

Skilled people can see the issues real time, fix them, and do

not need a spreadsheet but they help with historical data and trends.

There are no skilled people in the front office at NOV Eldridge the QA Manager.

None.

Management there is very, very poor - from the top down.

Allen, Keith, Greg, Danny - All are Horrible and can barley wipe their

own backsides however when needed they can nod their heads up and down.

Totally incompetent and unskilled. Take a planner from a window and door background and put him in charge of your supply chain of machined and welded parts with no knowledge of the manufacturing required - who makes these STUPID DECISIONS?

Now Allen and Danny are going to be in charge of insourcing at the NOV tower?

Hell they cannot make anything nor know how so just how is this going to work?

Now Paul is up front in Supplier Development? Would have been great in 1985.

Claim to fame is he could make a Ram Block on a Bridgeport.

What the hell would you want to?

Sure is not the NOV stockholders making these decisions.

FIX IT PLEASE NOV !!!

Call you skilled people back and get rid of these bobble heads.

Can someone on the shop floor point out who Keith is the next time he finds time to visit the people on the shop floor that build product to keep the doors open? Surely his isn't to busy to make time for the little people.

Orders won't pick up with the price of oil. Many of the drilling companies have rigs without operators. When the price of oil picks up, the drilling contractors will use the half a million dollar drillship lying around, not coming to get a new one from us. Everyone in management needs to realize that. The employee count is still too high. More cuts are coming.

Know nothing's, butt kissers, & inept management that describes most plants at NOV. Mgt. just expects the orders to poor in once oil picks up. Unfortunately there's competition, the poor delivery record, and the poor quality of product is going to be tough to overcome.

Your story would be the same for all of NOV, It goes back to the Pete Miller days of buy everything you can and don't lead anything

Product knowledge is significant within the engineering group who should also be responsible to define and implement manufacturing technologies. Except it's left to the has beens who occupy the weakest department in Mfg ops the ME group.

The management team currently consist with a culture of a push culture, and this goes right to the top. A turd that's pushed from one place to the next is still a turd.

The facility needs systems. Robust systems are what drive the culture and behaviours of all involved. Currently the site is built on tribal knowledge which explains the perpetual weak performances. If the systems and processes are robust, the facility should be able to efficiently handle ANY product thrown at it.

He thinks you run a business with spreadsheets, graphs and PowerPoint. Silly people, you don't need product knowledge to run a company that has no backlog. Besides, most of the product knowledge left when the VERP's were offered. These people were smart and got out at the right time.

What is running the place is people of little to no product knowledge, including Mr. Phillips himself.
