ARMy has taken over Mobile, will rule IoT, pretty much everything "but" the datacenter. That won't last long.
The physics of process and design are universal. Of course when ARM scales up they won't keep the huge power/efficiency lead, but they can do what is seen on the newest cores. They can have "Big" power cores that can match the best of x86 and then have "little" cores" when compute is light and smoke x86 in standby and low power needs applications.
With the move to 10nm and the way already demonstrated and huge silicon capability to integrate on 10nm 8-10 big cores and similar 4-6 small cores ARMy will smoke any big/little offering from Intel.
Tick Tock the clock has run out on Intel. Their failure to embrace ARM and doing so at 10nm is too late. The LTD folks are also late on process which will give the ARMy a 9 month to one year lead at 10 and even more at 7nm. The virtuous cycle has moved to Apple, Qualcomm, Softbank and TSMC.

I love the arrogance and cluelessness of Intel employees.
Is it so inconceivable that Apple is better? They have s---ed out the premier Intel talent and have a quarter of a trillion dollar war chest to out invest Intel by a significant margin.
Look for more surprises as Apple could also start making their own datacenter processors. The lessons of history are that performance follows VOLUME. In case you missed the memo, Apple out ships Intel by a wide and growing margin.
Wake up. Apple IS the premiere processor company now. Intel is a "has been".

It was always possible for ARM to catch up with x86 in performance. But whether that will be done while maintaining better power characteristics and comparable die size was the question. That question is still out there. Obviously Apple is seeing issues with power and that's the reason they have low power/performance cores included.
It is true though that they could switch to ARM on Macs since power is much less of a concern in laptops.
