Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Why every recruiter ask for my current status at sysko

Where ever I apply, the first q recruiter ask is - "Are you still with sysko or what is the current status". Looks like everyone knows what happened in sysko recently.

My last day is going to be oct17. what should my reply be ? I generally says i got impacted. Not sure if that creates any negative sentiments about me for the new job.

Another reason they ask is for them to determine how much leverage you have during salary negotiations.

Just tell them the truth, if you do well in the interview they dont care if you are/were LR'ed or not. I did, and we all giggled about it. I got 2 offers...

Tell them your whole team was impacted.....wrong place at the wrong time. (the last phrase pretty much sums up all the recent layoffs....very good people in the wrong place)

In India, if you have 12-15+ years of experience and the hiring people know that you were laid-off, you will most certainly get rejected. This is true for the major companies in the tech sector in India. You are considered as damaged good. Unable to find gainful employment, many are forced to leave the tech sector completely.

@kmt: I will bet you, that if you cover up your LR, it will be a double negative. Try it.. and update us.

The reason I say is, there is no way one can hide being LR'd in SV.

The hiring mgr will not care if you were impacted.. 50% of SV was impacted sometime in their life- no one cares about it.

The problem is you Lied . Even if they find you capable, they wont hire you.. based on ethics/morality issue.

Try

Till 10/17, say "I do work for Cisco". After that see the first answer here.

Cisco people are stigmatized as sh-- people because it's an old poorly run company where long time people can hide without producing. Recruiters I tslk to are hesitant to place Cisco people.

Tell them you are still there. If they hire you before oct/17, then you just need to tell them to give you 2 weeks so you can "leave" you CSCO job. If you are hired after oct/17, then tell your recruiter that you "just" cut due to budgetary reasons.

Sysko? Are you even a real Cisco employee? Or just adding some comments here for fun?

That is what I usually say. But looks like all this gives a negative sentiment to the recruiter and later to hiring manager as well. Also they see that I have not been able to find a job since layoff so they think is this guy really capable.
