Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

"I am terminating the department's recognition of ACICS as a national recognized accrediting agency," Emma Vadehra

"I am terminating the department's recognition of ACICS as a national recognized accrediting agency," Emma Vadehra, chief of staff to the education secretary, wrote in a letter to the organization. "ACICS's track record does not inspire confidence that it can address all of the problems effectively."

EDMC is not a school. It is not "accredited" by any entity. Many of the Art Institutes are REGIONALLY accredited, not ACICS accredited, and have been for a LONG time.

"The online programs are included within the accreditation of The Art Institute of Pittsburgh. The Art Institute of Pittsburgh is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, 3624 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104. (267-284-5000) The Middle States Commission on Higher Education is an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. The writing was on the wall for ACICS nearly a year ago. Zenith Education Group was tipped off by the DOE in June 2015 that they were pulling the plug on ACICS. Zenith Education Group has been working with ACCSC for over a year trying to get the Everest schools that were ACICS accredited switched over to ACCSC accreditation. Some of the schools were to bad that ACCSC would not approve their accreditation and Zenith decided to teach them out and close them. They are still having problems getting some of the schools that are left up to standards for ACCSC accrediting since the DOE crackdown on the accrediting counsels. I would venture to speculate that EDMC will run into major difficulties trying to meet the stricter standards of any accrediting counsel.

Denying authorization to ACICS will harm 800,000 students actively enrolled in their schools. I highly recommend readers of this blog take the time to understand the actual CFR that governs ALL accrediting agencies. It is clear that ED overreached and applied criteria way outside the CFR. Moreover, ED failed to systematically apply these same standards to the 20 other accreditors also seeking recognition. If all accreditors were held to the same account as ACICS they would all fail.

Who will accredit EDMC with all the bad press, lawsuits, low enrollment, closures? It's safe to assume most accrediting bodies are pointing their 10-ft poles at EDMC by now.

Exactly why BMC shut down when it did. Writing was on the wall.

"An estimated 600,000 students currently attending schools the council has accredited are in no immediate danger of losing their federal financial aid. Regardless of any appeal, those schools have 18 months to secure the approval of another accreditor — although they might have to meet more stringent standards."
