What happened to Fab 11x? Is it closed. The site is a ghost town.

I thought F11X was going to become a foundry cash cow with its industry leading low wafer cost achieved thru cost cutting, increased efficiency, and depreciated capital equipment costs....or so it was advertised. What happened?
The reality is when 10nm comes, if it every, LOL
The die scaling to be cost and power efficient mean the die will be small. With small die, falling demand and the need/requirement to keep the foreign fabs for their very attractive tax and political reasons.
F11x was gone, and as another poster noted Arizona is next. F42 It'll be right up there with F23 in Colorado as a reminder of waste with that huge empty building. Intel will keep Iserael and Ireland as mentioned earlier.
Of course nobody will admit it if you ask them common sense says it will be gone by 7nm. Hello Arizona guys you got till 2019 to find a 2020 if you don't get ACT2 or ACT3 action
No doubt Intel is on the ropes. When the Accompany CEO is no longer prepared to invest in that business module, you know doomsday is looming. And what about Bob Swan? One achievement he had at eBay was the engineering of the spinoff of PayPal. Sounds like BK wants him for this experience only to spinoff TMG. Agree with the last entry that AZ is next. Probably correct. They will need to sell that hulking brand new empty Fab sitting in the desert like a rusting boat anchor.
What a sad end to a site
I recalled Fab7 was first 6" site and went so well Intel said they'd never lead on a new wafer size.
Of course we had the golden years of Fab9 and Fab11 when x86 was king and the site was printing money. During those days even the jokers in NM could make money for intel.
Well things got harder and the talent of the location came thru. NM land of green chile and tumble weeds.
You know there was a reason Microsoft started their and quickly got the phuck out of there. If MS had stayed there would have never been the billionaires and thousands of millionaires of MS, LOL.
Intel waited to long to close that place
That fab was purposely sunk to make way for China based production. All manufacturing U.S. based employees will all be out of work soon. AZ is next to go.
Hopefully soon. Ancient technology and high maintenance costs. Recipes for closure.
